Anyone have a DIY for this? I am mainly having trouble removing the wiper itself. I don't want to start pulling on stuff that I could potentially break. Any advice is appreciated. I'm mid install so the sooner the better is appreciated.

My post also said I was in the middle of trying to do/finish the mod. When 22 people look at it and no one says a thing, it's a tad annoying.

I believe the term smart asses is possibly lost on you. The snarky response from the first member is what makes him a "smart ***." When instead of making a link, he could have easily said, "Hey. There is a YouTube video you should check out. Either google it, or here is said link..." Instead of a "How To" to google something. Cheeky ***** I tell ya. It's all figured out now, so no need to dwell on things any further.

Picking up some WD-40 in a little bit to aid in the wiper removal. Will be done today and I will post a picture of it. The day got away from me yesterday unfortunately. After running into issues with a silicone intake hose (see other thread lol) I just calmed down and put them both on hold.

Yes I did. I waited to get WD-40 and it was TONS easier to get off. Worthwhile for the very minor weight savings, and it looks cleaner in the rear now too. After the fact, it's pretty easy to do once you have all your questions/concerns answered LOL.

well looks much cleaner, kudos on getting it done Jay! On my to-do list along with a few others next weekend (if I decide to order them this week)

 

One of the videos only YouTube that I watched had a guy with a white second gen I believe. He says in the video that he got the parts to do this at Lowe's and spent less than $5. In the video info I believe he has the part numbers exactly. May want to look at that before spending $25 on a "kit." Had I not needed to order something extra to qualify for free shipping I would have just gone that route.

Just something to look into...

This is a step by step of what I did to install the Cravenspeed rear wiper delete kit that I purchased from Out Motoring...

Step 1: Remove the clip from your rear wiper to expose a 13mm bolt that will need to be removed to get the wiper arm off.

Step 2: Spray around wiper arm, at the nut, with WD-40. This will help with removal of the arm. The arm pulls straight off. It does take a little muscle, but like I said the WD-40 will help.

This was also where I got slowed down as I was concerned I was going to break something.

Step 3: Open your back hatch and with a phillips head screwdriver take out the 6 screws holding the plastic on to the inside of the hatch. Once those are removed there are clips that are holding the plastic in. Just a little bit of force will pop those out. Just a couple tugs and you'll see your next step.

Step 4: Remove the wiper fluid hose from the connection. The kit comes with a plug for the hose. Put that in at this time if you want.

Step 5: There are two plugs connected to the wiper motor. The big plug you just need to remove. That is powering the motor. The small one is your locking mechanism so if you undo that one and then shut your hatch, you aren't going to be using the keyless function to get that open.

Step 6: Use a 10mm socket to remove the 3 bolts holding the wiper motor on. Once those are out, and the washer line is taken, and the larger connector removed the motor comes right out. Bearing you to the wiper arm off first. This should leave you with a nice clean hole in your glass.

Step 7: Insert the plug into the hole. It slips right in with a little adjustment.

Step 8: The thin black washer can go on the allen bolt and you can slide that through plug in the glass.

Step 9: I then put the washer and small nut on the back and tried to get the nut started on the back thread. If you put any pressure on it the allen bolt will press out the top. Takes a little finesse but again, pretty simple.

Step 10: Once I got the thread started I held the hatch on my chest and used an allen key to make sure the allen bolt wouldn't spin so that the nut can be tightened on the back. I used a 10mm socket and blindly got in the nut that I had already started. I proceeded to hand tighten, but not with all my strength.

Viola, you're finished. Admire the clean look on the back of your Mini now.

REMEMBER: You are putting pressure on your hatch glass. Be careful how tight you go. Once your "fears" of breaking anything go away, and you are reassured of the steps you need to take, this is a simple and clean looking mod. Plus it saves a couple pounds if you're super ultra racer man!
