Power steering fan

Hey,

Can anyone give me the correct part number for a power steering fan for a 2003 S model? I see multiple options online and want to make sure I order the right part.

Yes all the numbers supersede. We keep these in stock as the original MINI one is crazy expensive. We install them on any car that needs one.

Here the power steering parts number for the full fan and bracket.

We also have just the fan listed if the bracket is ok and not rusted to pieces and the fan with the bracket now come with the new fan grille. Which on older MINIs they did not have the grille. They both come with the under in line resistor.

Are these REALLY needed?

And not, 'MINI had them on their so they must be - you're going to DIE if you take it off!!!' - or, 'it's $130, it's cheap insurance'.

I just bought one and even with my big skidplate a single rallycross had the thing all crunchy. I was thinking maybe mounting it up top and drilling a hole through the hood to draw air up around the back of the motor...until I read someone had thrown theirs in the trash years ago and been totally fine.

Anyone else have real life (not theoretical) data on this?

Thanks a lot guys!

Pat

It cools the pump, which I don't think I would test overheating the P/S pump when they are expensive and some work to replace. Also runs with the A/C.

You can get just the fan itself linked above, just make sure the old one has the grille to block plastic bags and such. Heard stories of plastic bags getting stuck in there with no grille.

Which skid-plate are you running ?

I'm sure my old fan was broken for a long time - just not sure for how long...it was seized up solid. My A/C is stripped off so no worries there.

I have the Rennline skidplate:

Good protection but even less airflow...

Rennline is good and does block it a little bit but protects the fan and under body. It still gets air.

Your up north, but sometimes it gets hot. I would get the fan replaced with the fan only unit, if you want. If the p/s pump overheats or something , that would not be good.

What year are you , MINI extended the warranty for the P/S pump and fan for certain years.

As I said, I just did replace the fan. If this one doesn't last I won't be doing it again - will let my car be another real world test and see how long the pump lasts.

My car is an '05 - paid out of pocket to have the pump replaced back in '07 - got my reimbursement check from MINI a couple years ago. What a nice surprise, they even paid for my state inspection that was on the same bill!
