R50/53 Snobby MCS Owners?
Snobby MCS Owners?
So I was reading in a different thread that one MC owner thought that MCS owners were 'snobby' in regards to regular Coopers. (i.e. the only 'real' MINI worth owning is an S) I've heard of the dislike of Mini vs MINI, but never MCS vs MC. Any other MC owners run into this or feel this way?
I, for one, don't care whether you've got a Cooper or an S, I just want to drive by and smile, and congratulate you on your good taste in cars.

To me, the MC is just slow and has no potential when it comes to increasing its performance in a straight line. With that said, they look cleaner from the front and came in a color I really wish I could get on my MCS (that sea green color, I forget what it's called), and you MC guys don't have stupid problems we have to deal with like yo-yo and stumble. Either way, enjoy what you have and if you encounter a snobby person just ignore:smile:
I've driven a handful of Cooper's, and they're a blast in their own right!
I'm certainly envious of the Cooper's lighter weight, superior fuel economy, and anyone that has Kaleido Black or Red cloth (so cool!)

I've driven both & I love them both! However, when I wave/smile/flash fellow MINI drivers, I've noticed the drivers in the Coopers are usually the ones that ignore me & don't gimme any eye contact.
Maybe they think that I think my S is better than them & they don't wanna give me the satisfaction by acknowledging my presence? Kinda like seeing an old fart driving a new Ferrari... U wanna look but u tell yourself not to look so u won't give him the satisfaction, I'm sure u all know what I mean.
Seriously now, a Cooper or an S still looks like a MINI as they are one of the more distinctive cars on the road these days. If I can appreciate someone choosing the Coop for its fuel economy or the availability of automatic, what can't the MC drivers appreciate my preference for higher hp?

"Cooper or an S still looks like a MINI" ?? both are MINIs and I like both and I would love to have a Mini also.

Slant... maybe you are looking at it the wrong way. Maybe a person who chooses an MCS over an MC is more into cars, and is looking for other MINI's (and other special cars too). Maybe there are more people who just buy an MC because it is cute and trendy, but don't really care much about cars in general. It would probably never occur to them to wave at another person with the same car. The average MCS owner is probably more into cars, and appreciates other MINI's when he/she sees them.
And I am not talking about anyone on this board, because everyone here is obviously into cars. But there are plenty of MINI owners who just buy it cause it is cute, but thats about it. They just drive it and don't think too much about it.
Do you get what I am trying to say?

Wow, I've never heard of this! I have a Cooper S, but there are plenty of people with Coopers participating in local activities. I've never seen the snobbery nor do I think any of the Cooper owners that I know of have experienced it.
One thing that I do see all the time on this site is posts (or entire threads) where people just assume that everyone drives an S, and they don't think to distinguish. This of course matters a great deal if you're talking about exhausts, fuel economy, or plenty of other topics.
Well, Maybe its like this?
I've been waving at MC and MCS drivers since b4 I got my MCS. Nobody waved back while I was driving my truck
.
Now that I'm in my MINI people in MCs and MCS are waving back. I do know that once or twice I've missed waving at someone because I was shifting while they zoomed by in the opposite direction. One hand for the wheel, one hand for the stick, no hands for waving.
Maybe when the MCS CVT comes out, more MCS drivers will wave?

Yes, I try to be aware of that. MINI is the make, a Cooper or a Cooper S is the model. I also am careful not to say things like "just a Cooper". I have been known to say regular Cooper, but I like base Cooper better. Usually, I just say the Cooper without the supercharger.
The Boston Globe a couple of weekends ago printed a story in their automotive section about the MINI group drive up Mt. Washington in New Hampshire, which contained the "information" that these cars come in three models: MINI, Cooper S, and cabrio.
And this from a writer who has reviewed MINIs on multiple occasions!

) I'll let slide as "too early in the morning for all that happy stuff". That said, my two best motoring experiences have been with Coopers at stoplights. Once in San Francisco well before I had Charlie, back in May 2002, and once a few days ago. Both owners were really cool, chatting for as long as the light stayed red.
But, I can certainly see some people treating MINIs as another Beetle or PT Cruiser - a different looking car that they think looks 'cute'. (although why ANYONE would think a PT looks cute is beyond me).
Bottom line: Mini, MC or MCS. Enjoy thier company and make them feel welcome. Especially if its a Mini, IMO.

I have all of the above.
I guess I must be pretty lucky or smart, eh?
Not that anyone really cares for my imput, but, I own a MC. I got it as a first car. For me, it's not about raceing, or high performance. It was about the quality of the car, the look, and the bonus of the nice lower gas prices. I'm 17, I don't need to be out showing off my MINI looking for a peel-out opportunity! I enjoy when people look at my MINI because it makes people smile, they look at it and it gives many people that I have meet, a smile on their face, and it just makes me feel go as well. I have seen a few MCS, but many of the MINI's in my area are MC. We all say hi to each other, wave, I honk once and a while. (I also like the idea from the other post about the two-way radios...) anyway, I love m y MINI, and look forward to being with it all the way through college and beyond. !-
Well, I am a dork, so it goes along with the whole package. And I mostly honk, which may seem a little odd, but it make ssome people look around like, "What Going On???" But if the other MINI owner knows me, then it's ok. I have made friends with a few, thoes are the ones I wave to.
