need a motor

Hey everyone, I blew my engine in my R53 and I would like to replace it with a jcw motor...Anyone know where I can get my hands on one without going through the remanufactured ones at Way Motors or trying to buy one out of a salvaged vehicle?

If not one designed by Way ( excellent option ) and not from salvage yard, it leaves two rather obvious choices. The dealer or private sale.....

Please remember, a r53 "JCW" motor is only different cause the head is ported and the sc has a pulley...then add the 380 injectors and the JCW 210 tune for post 2005 cars....and the motor is the same....mechanically the motors are the same...it us the bolt on stuff that makes a JCW motor a jcw...remember, the JCW was a dealer "bolt on option" on gen1 cars for most years...

I think the oil was too low...started knockin...thought it was the tensioner, then the guide, then the chain and so on and son on. Finally had the rod bearings replaced and they started knockin with in 15 mins. I think the only reasonable answer would be a bent crank? Wish I could keep this engine; less than 40k, 16% s/c pulley, 2% crank pulley, ns1 cam and adjusted cam gear that I never got to experience, obviously tons of other new parts as well. I ordered this car brand new in '04, it's an '05. Over the years I have done tons of suspension work and many other things to make it my own. I love this car and I just don't know what to do anymore. I suppose I could go for an "S" engine, and keep moddin that out...but I'm not made of money...so...idk.

See what RMW has to offer. Usually great prices for great performance. They have a badass 1.8L stroker.

Did you not replace the crankshaft? If you didn't, then you probably scored the crank too much when you blew the bearings and there was too much clearance causing the bearings to get beat up again. I'm sure it definitely needed a new crank and probably you could just do that and have it fixed.

but isn't replacing a crank more expensive than buying an engine??

It's expensive, but not new engine expensive. I sourced a crank for $350 for my r50....

Crank and bearings is around $1K. It's the labour that kills (if you don't do it yourself).

Be very careful to seal the bedplate with the right sealant (anaerobic) as shown in the TIS

That's the motor I have, but I don't have the head and header yet. 227whp.

If you're getting the forged pistons just know you HAVE to warm them up before you can even move the car (~175°f water). Then you have to keep it out of boost until the oil is warmed up. But after its all warmed up you can beat on it mercilessly and it will ask for more.

I am currently using my mini as a daily driver until I can get my e30 running again. It's absolutely doable you just have to plan a little ahead, the motor is totally civilized and fine sitting in traffic and what have you.
