I have a 2003 r53 that I put a new clutch in.all went well except I have no back up light and my bulb is good. On my transmission there is a two wire female end socket. I am thinking the socket leads to a switch in the transmission that turns my reverse light on, but I'm not sure. I can not find a wire anywhere on my mini to plug into this socket. Does anyone know if the socket on the transmission is for the reverse light ? Also , if so, where does the wire originate from that plugs into the socket? Thanks for the help.

 

Yup, there is a switch that connects to the trans to turn on the reverse light. Check out this thread, might be useful for you.

Its on the back side of the transmission under where your airbox should be. I did the same thing when I did my clutch. Its pretty difficult to see where it goes but that's definitely the problem you have.

 

Thanks for the help. My problem now is I can't find the wire to plug into the transmission. I have followed every wire I can find and no wire is not plugged into something. I am hoping someone can tell me where the transmission wire originates so I have an idea where to start looking. Thanks.

The wire might be hanging out somewhere under the airbox disconnected.

 

Spent an hour with a flashlight and mirror following wires without finding one to plug into the tranny. Running a k&n so I don't have the airbox in the way. Pulled off the front wheel and jacked up the car. Feel like I've looked everywhere. The cars new to me but stock so I got to think when I dropped the tranny I must of unhooked the wire.
