Roof Rack Mount Covers

Hi Everyone,

I know it's been mentioned before, but I couldn't find a good thread on here about it.

HOW do I keep my roof rack caps on over the mounting bolts? Almost every time I wash the car or get going quick I manage to lose one. I just lost my 3rd cover since buying my 05 Cooper S in April.

I'm tired of replacing caps already, but I am too cheap to buy the $160 roof rack (As I would hardly ever use it, if ever.)

What are some solutions to keeping these little guys on?

If you don't know what I'm talking about they are the black oval-ish caps seen on the roof in these pics: https://drive.google.com/folderview?...Xc&usp=sharing

I have heard of Velcro and Silicone as options, but nobody actually used them as solutions or at least said they did.

Thanks for the help.

They are around ~$1.50 each. That's all from us.

They snap onto those studs. You could get the rack only. 82710024992

Or I have head with new ones and then using a glue gun, dabs on the mount. That way the stay , but can come off with a little more force.

Thanks

Bought mine from ECST, but then drilled a hole(pic attchd), Measure twice, drill once, then use STAINLESS hardware.

That idea crossed my mind as well. Thinking of using a black fender washer and a stainless bolt or two per cap. That sort of defeats the sleek look though.

Try the glue gun trick first, hard this works. And it keeps things clean.

I use clear silicone. I put a good dab on each of the mounts then put the cover on and make sure to really seat it well. I found my first failures a lot were the fact I did not seat the cover all the way back.

Another tip I find without silicone they are good for one use. Once you use it and the plastic tabs get worn from applying and removal they will not stay on without silicone.

Hey, for anyone on here that cares I fixed the problem. I bought some 3M Trim and Molding adhesive tape.

Autozone Tape

I cut tiny pieces and put one on the first post you slide it onto and one on the back part of the cover. With a good amount of pressure and adjusting / wiggling it will really tightly slide on. It REALLY doesn't seem to want to move either.

It's not 100% flush, but it's probably like the thickness of a staple off the roof. You can hardly notice at all.
