R50/53 Fuel gauge?

Fuel gauge?
I get 225-240 kms in the first 1/4 tank,180-200 second 1/4,120-130 third 1/4
I have never gone more than 10-15 mins, from the light going on about low fuel, but when I fill ,the fuel # works out ,in our case 8 litres is when the light comes on ,and I fill 42-43 litres .50 litre tank.
So the guage is sort of off .Not a big deal,it is always the same, without back road spirited motoring.
I commute 800 kms a week,500 miles .Anyone else see this .sorry I'm not going to convert to many #,s

From what the tech tells me as the tank runs down the MINI goes through a series of safe modes .To protect itself from running out . Don't really ever want to go there. So I see the last 1/4 as reserve. As long as I get great MPG,not really a problem, but one would think that if you had a car with more than one computer in it, they could build a good float.Geez

In my experience, all gauges in the universe are biased to the "front" part of the tank. for one thing, if you fill a tank to the gills, the float (and needle) go WAY past their normal full mark but you can't tell cuz their movement is positively stopped.
The real MINI racers ? have met, swear by the incredible accuracy of the "volume meter" on the car BTW........

I didin't check to see how much fuel was remaining, however twice now I have had the Est. Miles remaining read zero and covered 2-3 miles like that. Unfortunatly this knowledge only makes me more more apt to run the needle down. Although I always get a little scared when the needle goes below the E light, I'm also up for the adventure (and never that far from fuel in time like those).

I did it again. Apparently if you keep driving after the estimated remaining miles gets down to zero, it then goes blank. Amount of fuel put in the car. 13.2 gallons. Capacity according to the manual 13.2 gallons. But does this include the 2.1 gallon reserve? Could I have gone another @50 miles? Inquiring minds want to know.

The furthest I have gone is to have the computer display 3 miles until empty :D

Try and start any fuel injected engine that has gone dry,not easy. And not good for it.

Fuel gauge
on my 2004 MC 5S when the low fuel light turns on that is 11 gallons consumed. In all highway driving the first 1/4 tank = 170 mi. and the next 1/4 tank = 125 mi. and the next 1/4 tank = 125 mi. then the light turns on 30 mi. that's 450 miles on 11 gal. of 89 octane gas. About 40 miles per gallon at 75 mph ave. speed andaircondition use 1/4 of the time.

The fuel gauge in MM2 seems very logrithmic, or at least exponential. It stays at "full" for a loooong time, slowly creeps to 3/4 mark, and then picks up speed. By the time it hits 1/4 mark, I can actually see it crashing towards empty.
It's like gravity has taken the needle over! Sometimes, if I have the stereo off, I can hear this "waaa-BAM!" sound as the needle free-falls to earth.
