New 04 Mini Cooper

Hi Everyone. Just bought an 04 Mini Cooper with 103K on the clock, 5 spd manual. Its very clean, got a good deal on it. Here's two pics so far.

There are some minor issues, I will be doing extensive searching but if anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it:

-Front wipers do not work in any position. Checked/swapped fuse, no change. Windshield washer nozzles work, rear wiper works.

-Horn does not work. Again, checked/swapped fuse, no change.

-A/C does not blow cold. Probably needs to be recharged. If there is a DIY for this please post a link.

-Power steering is a bit tough. Not sure if this is how mini power steering feels, it feels the same as three other Mini's I test drove. I've read a bit about the pump and pump fan needing some attention, will investigate those.

A bit about me:
I consider myself very handy with a wrench, my forte is Porsche/Audi so this is a new foray into the BMW world for me.

Thank you all in advance!

Another thing is the speedometer is stuck at 90mph (not sure how!) and I read about resetting the ECU to recalibrate this. The strange thing is I don't have option 19 when I go through the procedure. The numbers advance starting at 0.1 all the way to 1.0 and then go back to .01 I will try to write down the exact sequence and post it here.

Hi Nice Mini!
Looks Clean!

Do it Slow Went You Goin trow The Numbers
Because You Need The 21 to reset The ECU.
But If They Happen Again?

Just Disconnect The Battery Cable For 10min.
N' That Way You Can Reset The ECU Also.

Have Nice Day!
I Hope This Help You!

Power steering on mini feels like none compared to other cars. Whenever I jump in the mini after driving the subaru I feel like there's no power steering at all that's how drastic the "weight" of the wheel is.

AC not blowing cold: search ac clutch coil Mini Cooper via google..I just completed this work this weekend.

Horn...no idea maybe the horn itself....
Wiper- maybe try the wiper stalk and replacing that...it's an electrical switch so it can go bad.

90 mph -- not a clue...a new speedo would require a trip to the dealer to be programmed to the car....unfortunately. Odd about the reset ECU issue. Does it stay at 90mph even with the car off? Do all other gauges reset when you turn the car off? Careful unplugging things as this can lead to needing reprogramming

Good luck and welcome. Hoping you got a decent deal

There are 2 horns is rare that both go at the same time but maybe the PO never felt like changing them, they are about 35.00 each and you'll have to take the front bumper cover off to replace them, not hard at all

Hope they're all independent issues & not the BCM. Let a MINItech give your Body Control module a health check. It controls all the car's electronics(gauges too) & has been known to go berserk when wet, usually from sunroof leaks. Any signs of moisture on the carpet of the passenger footwell? If you have both wetness & sunroof, chances are your drain hose/s might have dislodged from the tube.

This is probably it, the previous owner said that the car did have a minor sunroof leak that was fixed last year, so the BCM could have gotten wet and caused this. Is there a way for me to check the BCM? I have an ODB-USB cable is there any software available that you can check these things?

Went through the BCM this weekend, the white connector was badly corroded. I cleaned it up as much as I could, sprayed with Deoxit cleaner, used a nail file on some of the contacts and plugged it all back in. No change. No horn, wipers, AC. Going to methodically go through each system before I go through trying to replace the BCM.

Unfortunately, the corrosion/wet may have fried the drivers for those components. I suspect the BCM is bad.

Thanks. Is there any consensus regarding whether a used module can be used or do I have to buy a new one and pay the dealer to program it?

If you search everyone says new one is required and needs to be programmed. However out of curiosity I used google and found this:

http://www.gethypoxic.com/reviews-te...-bc1-unit.html

In theory it should work but I don't know. Depends on if you want to take the gamble of a used BCM or not.

You'll need the donor/paired transponder w/ it or it won't work. The used BC1 may have different options checked, too. Nothing a reprogram can't fix.
