Is this the proper way to install yakima

Is this the proper way to install a yakima rack on a 05? I thought they didn't have slots under the rain gutters? I was under the impression that the rack grabbed over and then under the gutters.

I was going to go with a mont blanc, but I like the idea of getting different qclips to install on my wifes car for family road trips.

im not sure if it is, they wont allow viewing through other sites, but the yakima tower system goes under the rain gutter that goes along the roof, there is a litle cubby that you can fit the clips, fairly easy to get in

i at first thought it held onto the gutter itself, until i called yakima and was told otherwise.

real easy install, took about 20 min including cleaning my roof so the pads didnt sit on dirt

Thats what they show in the video. They install it between the roof and gutter. For some reason I thought that the first gens didn't have that little depression that the clips slide in to. Thanks

the first clips can go up to like 6 inches away from the windshield, and the rear ones can go up to 40 inches away? not too sure about the rear ones, since i never measured, but you can feel it when you try to slide the clips in

good luck!

Awesome thanks. I just ordered the yakima. Now I just need a stubby antenna so my kayak clears it.

I purchased a yakima rack for my 05 second hand off someone on this site. I am having nothing but trouble trying to get it to fit though. It seems that the part that will rest against the roof is to high? Help would've greatly appreciated

I'm wondering if there are specific location areas which are a bit stronger for mounting, for supporting weight. I have a Mont Blanc which I love and use just about daily. Not sure if your rack is similar, but haven't had any issues with the gutter mounts, and I've tried a few different locations.

Yakima site says the front towers are to be positioned 4 inches from the windshield, rear is a wide range of up to 45 inches from the front towers.
My car has a black roof and even with new pads and clean car I have slight blemishes that never polished off. The good news is I don't have to measure when I need to get the rack on it.

I guess I have the old set up. Called yakima yesterday told me front towers go 6 inches from windshield and then 18 inches from that goes the rear towers. Got it all on nice and snug but think my Q towers might be wearing out? They are used , just wondering if this has happened to anyone. My front cross bar spins much easier than the rear. For now it will do.
