Anyone know what this is?

Hey all, I spent some time searching and cannot locate the name of this fuse is. it's in the upper left of the engine compartment near the brake lines. There were two fuses in it, one burnt.

It appears to be a power supply wiring set for optional equipment such as additional fans, MIni boost, etc. according to realOEM. The 6 945 303 number shows as a valid p/n.

On google Image search, it comes up as a power steering harness. The fuse in it was blown. I have not been able to verify if the p/s fan comes on. I have been doubting that the low speed on the radiator works.

Just checked the fuse and it has blown. I changed it only yesterday.

May be a different method of adding a PS fuse?!
Mine was wired into the driver side fuse block inside.....by the dealer in 2005 when they did the retrofit (car was built in late 2004 as a 2005 model year....so wiring for the fan was updated to match the 2005 built cars....and prevent a siezed PS fan from killing the radiator fan).
To tell if you have been updated or have the older wiring on a 2004 or earlier...there is a 2 plug oval connector next to the radiator fan connector...this connector powers the Ps fan...when the mod is done...the connectors are either left dangling on the fan side, or cut off and taped up....the car side wires are reused in the rewiring.....

For clarification, what is this retrofit? I have a September '02 cooper s. It has two connectors for the radiator fan, so this has been upgraded?

Could blowing fuses mean the p/s fan is in need of replacement?

I cannot determine if it or the radiator fan work properly. When I turn on the AC, the car will cycle the fan every so often in short intervals. I cannot tell if it is the low or high, I haven't heard two distinct speeds. Any ideas?

With the pre 2005 model year wiring....the PS fan COULD cause the radiator fan to stop...causing the car to overheat....as I understand it, the PS fan can sieze...and in the old wiring setup...a fuse blows that powers BOTH the ps fan and radiator fan relay...killing the radiator fan....
The plug by the radiator for the fan is NOT one of the plugs folks count when saying 2 or 3 plugs when determine which fan to buy...it is a small, 2 pin plug...oval....not the barrel style connectors for the radiator....
Many cars...were rewired if they came into a dealership during the warrenty period or shortly after, especially if the PS fan was siezed,.....it was done as a "service campaign"....not a recall.

If the radiator fan is cycling on and off....rather than staying on...nearly silently...the low speed resistor is blown....

Mine cycled on and off with AC, and I assumed that was low speed, but it was high speed.

I have since replaced my low speed resistor, and now the fan runs continuous and fairly quietly when AC is on.

A who's back I read a guy who found extra wires up there by the ABS system. In his case it was wires for an option which he did not have: factory alarm. Hence he just had an empty plug since the option was never added / car not ordered that way.
