R50/53 Fun on your daily commute?
Fun on your daily commute?
I've got one fun spot I drive through several times per day. I live just above a major river and it provides a scenic curving drive under huge oak trees. The fun part is a turn from along the river up to where my house is. It combines a left turn, sharp incline and then a right turn. Very nice... I accelerate through it everytime!
Godspeed.
Godspeed.
The only real fun part of my commute is the last left turn I get to take... this morning, I came around that at about 30 mph, (in complete control) to see a cop sitting there. The speed limit was 35. I snapped it right up to that and leveled it off at 37... of course he pulled me over and talked to me about driving too fast... I nodded, he went back to his car with all of my paperwork like he was going to give me a ticket, and I'm thinking to myself, what can he possibly give me a ticket for? If the speed limit is 35 and I choose to corner at that rate of speed or less, that's my joy... anyway, I think either he realized it wouldn't stand or he liked the innocent look I gave him, OR the MINI gods were with me, but he just gave me the talking to. I happily tooled off to work.
I'll be looking ahead before I come flying around that corner in the future.

Not really a part of my commute -- but there is a really curvy, shaded road in my neighborhood that adds about three miles to my commute. I could not take it and save time, fuel, etc. But where's the fun in that? I've been finding myself take that road to and from work... everyday....
My favorites happen on the way to school. Theres this hill i alway go up which the locals call "snake hill." The recommended speed for this hill is 30 km, but my mini makes me go up it at 80 km, she's completely evil i tell you!
At another intersection just before i go to school, theres this sort of "on ramp," a big sweeping right hand turn as well. Freaking awesome!

Every once in a while (perhaps 1 out of 15 times), I get to blast away on this wonderfully twisty hilly road between my house and the next major road (about 1.5 miles). It is striped for 3 lanes (2 with a turn lane), but wide enough for 5. The speed limit is an absurd 40 mph ('cause it's through a country club area), and usually I am stuck behind a very slow person doing 40 or even less. But when I get the wide open road, I blast it at 70+. Never seen a cop (knock on wood), and I know where all of the entrances to the road are so I can watch out. It is the most fun road -- a real shame when I am forced to creep along.

Since I commute via the train, the best part is looking for other MINI's driving to work... and of course, gazing at the ocean and the surfer boys out for an early wave...

I have all kinds of curvy roads on my 15-minute commute...hardly a straight road in sight! Needless to say, any of these curves can be fun if I'm in the mood and conditions seem safe. I have two favorite turns...one is practically a hairpin at a T-intersection between two roads that run almost parallel...hence a hairpin. The other is a very hard right on a nearly deserted road with very good visability. My commute makes for very good motoring.
Daily Commute
We live in the mountains of western Nc in the Asheville area. My daily commute takes about 20-25 minutes depending on how much fun I am having
The first 4-5 miles are full of twisties and Mini loves to prove herself in handling capabilities. Many folks ask is she fast and I respond plenty nimble to be quick. I'll find myself going five miles out of the way just to experience a new set of curves.

Thank goodness for heated seats. In winter the car barely warms up!
One of these days I'm gonna get busted!
