Driver Seat Cracking

Hey guys my driver seat is starting to crack on the bottom door side bolster, hasnt completly shown foam, but its starting to give away. anyone else have this program and have been able to fix it?

im not sure if its real leather, so i could potentially condition it and loosen it up and have it stay connected, or if its vinyl and ill have to add a patch.

i can post pictures later

very common problem with vinyl. mine is beginning to crack as well, but isn't evident unless you are looking very closely. I would recommend taking it to an upholstery shop to see if they can replace the panel. I did this on my last car (07 Audi A3) and it cost me $250, looked OEM.

Mine has similar issues, along with a seized recline mechanism.

It's at an upholstery shop now for repair and replace the seat back.

You should be able to find a competent shop. I was quoted $125 - $135 for the whole thing.

mine's doing the same. Wish it didn't have an airbag, i would've already fitted a Corbeau. I might anyway, hate the smell of the vinyl seats...

I have a 2004 MCS R53. My driver side seat is cracking and tearing. The left side bolster is cracking and flaking too. My upholstery shop close by has said he can most likely repair the seat, but he is concerned that he may damage the heating element.

Has anyone out there had their heated seat successfully repaired?

I don't want to just toss a cover over it, I want to fix it right.

Thanks.

I just had my 2007 R52 driver seat repaired. See if this company has a franchise near you. This guy I thought did a great job, they don't do any type of cushion or foam fill or repair, will just fix any wear marks, cracks, rips, punctures etc.

RazorV ahhhh Siesta Key.... I live in Ohio but get down to Sarasota quite a few times a year. They repaired mine in under 2 hrs for $120 bucks, I think it looks great, I didn't want it to get any worse. How do you keep that white sand out of the MINI? I get you can quickly get into spots at St. Armand's, while I drive around looking for a spot to squeeze into.

They are made of the same material used to make wet suits, Rubber and some kind of velour, comfortable, good looking, tight fit..

But do the seat covers inhibit the air bags?

No, there are holes in the seat covers that let the seat air bags function..

Sorry to hijack Salt.

Anyone know if the 'skin' and cushion pieces are the same for passenger and driver side? As in can you transplant from a relatively unused passenger seat onto the drivers seat frame?

My Red MCS drivers seat has been repaired a couple times. When it failed again I just got some seat covers, they fit tight and are acceptable as far as seat covers go. Wrap under the seat and behind the plastic trim, i removed the seats to better install and the result is quite good. Driver Seat Cracking-img_0003.jpg

Relatively cheap ones from a company in CA called Iggee, I think they are selling on Ebay. Both front seats for $179 including shipping, custom made in several different color combinations. Had to wait 3 or so weeks to recieve, I finally installed the passenger one last week. They have additional padding built into the seat and back cover and are quite comfortable. The door side of the backs are sealed with velcro so as not to inhibit the air bag function, have not tested that bit yet. Thought this seam would open up as you get in and out but they have remained tight and the drivers one has been on for a couple months now.
