Tricky glovebox door/lid

Something is wonky with the latching mechanism on my glove box and I cannot figure out how to repair. It randomly pops open when I hit bumps in the road. As amusing/quirky as it is I would like to repair or replace. Curious if anyone has been able to get into the actual lid and see what sort of repair options I have or do I simply have to buy a new lid and be on my way?

My old R53 did the same thing. I added shims to help, I think there was a TSB for the concern, but it only lessened it. I could never really get it to completely stop. Low profile tires on 17" wheels with rough Iowa roads did little to help the situation.

Mine is doing the exact same thing. You probably have a broken plastic part inside the mechanism. There was a write up several months ago about removing the whole glove box and making a repair by splitting the door seam to gain access to the parts. I had already tried a fix myself without splitting the door, but the plastic sheared off in the mechanism. I adjusted the striker for a tighter fit, and it's a bit better, but big bumps still cause it to pop open. The only fix now is a complete box unless I go for the Velcro fix some people have used. The best price I see for new is from ECS Tuning, so I'll probably be ordering soon. Hope you have better luck with a repair than I did!

Check the site below and click on the DIY tab. Scroll down to glove box and there are 16 links about various glove box issues and fixes. Hopefully that may help. Good luck.
