Traded in my 02 MCS last night on a new rsx. Sadly, a much better car for my daily 100 mile commute. I was actually shocked as to what I got for it in trade. I bought the car last july used for $20k, put 17k on it, wore out the tires, and got $19k for it in trade. And they discounted the new car. You will probably all bash me for selling my mini but hey, i'm happier. And i'll probably get another one when I don't need it to be a daily driver. But not an 02 model thats for sure.

Don't sweat the switch, the Mini isn't for everyone and Acura makes a good car.

That is cool that they gave you such a great price on a trade in!

They just charge you more for the new car and make you feel good about the value of your trade-in! You will ALWAYS do better selling a car yourself if you don't mind the inconvenience.

fwiw, I predict that MINI resale values are about to head south, now that more cars are coming off warranty and more owners are having to pay out of pocket to fix things. If you're thinking of selling, now is the time!

Where are you located? - that was a good deal provided the price you paid for the RSX was right.

Well, that remains to be seen. people have been predicting the "demise" of MINI resale values since even before introduction of the car 2 years ago..and so far...nothing has happened.

As long as BMW does not flood the market (Like DCX and VW did) and start dumping new MINIs into fleet sales (Rentals) and offer rebates and discounts, rest assured that your resale value will still be well above average.

What used market values have to do with "more cars coming out of warranty"??

Please explain.

The RSX is a total yawner. I used to have an Integra back in 1995 and while it was a good car for its time its was boring as heck.

But if the RSX is what "floats your boat" then congratulations. You just realized that MINIs are obviously not for you.

'04 MCS with 8,300 miles and zero problems.

Many people replace their cars when the warranty expires. This increases the supply of cars on the resale market, driving prices down. As a side effect, the availability of slightly older cars at lower prices drags down the price of cars still under warranty.

That's my explanation and I'm sticking to it!

Interesting theory but you have to remember that there are not that many MINis in the used car market, at least not in the quantities required, to make a long term negative impact on resale values. There are only about 60K-70K new MINIs sold to date since its March 2002 launch. Out of that total probably there are (Just a guess) K to 10K cars in the used market right now?. Compare that to over 200K-300K PT Cruisers and Beetles sold to date (Albeit those cars are produced in much higher quantities and for longer than the MINI has).

I am not knocking your story but simply stating that there are not that many MINIs to make such a lasting effect, at least not yet. Maybe in another 2-3 years? Perhaps but time will tell

I have an 03 Accord. ITs a great car, drives nice and puts me to sleep. I tried to keep up with a cooper ops: the other day on an off ramp...who was I kidding. I kept it at speed until it started to break loose. I knew what was in store when I started to try to keep pace.

My wife once traded an old ('79?) Honda Accord on a new Fiero (don't laugh) and was surprised to get $4K. I told her if we were buying a Rolls she'd be getting $24K!

I recently checked the Kelly Blue Book website for my '03 MCS. I have no experience with whether or not their figures are accurate. All wanted to report is the price they show for my car, disregarding the JCW kit, is more than I paid for it in October of '02....Bruce in Santa Monica

I would drive an 88 Fiero GT. Yhose cars got sorted out in their last year, it's just too bad their demise had been guaranteed long before that.

My '02 MCS has 45,371 miles on it... about out of
warranty... should I sell?... will I sell?...

NO WAY!!!! Don't need a newer car, don't want any
other car! Still happy after all these miles!

Godspeed.

Think of the time when she's paid off free and clear still running
and looking fine. Breezin' down the road with Mod daydreams.

When it's time to sell her, whatever the market bares will be
good enough. Maybe some high school kid will step up with
$4000 cash grinnin' ear to ear.

The RSX was nearly my next car before I saw the MINI. I owned a 1997 Prelude and I knew the RSX would be just as much fun. My issues with the car were the leather only option for the "S" and the lack of distinctive styling for the "S". It would not have stopped me from buying it though. I know you will enjoy your new ride.

So what really makes the RSX that much better as a daily driver?

It's not going to fall apart on him like his MINI did.

And what happened to his MINI that was so bad?

I have seen cars that truly fall apart and the MINI is not one of them, not by any stretch of the imagination.

Did he have tape all over the car so it will not desintegrate?

I love it when people resort to exageration

He made a post about stuff that went wrong with his car. Everybody knows the earlier cars were hit and miss with respect to quality (nothing new with English cars), he felt that his had an unacceptable amount of things that went wrong with it and traded the car in. If you truly believe that MINI doesn't have quality issues you're in a dream world, the RSX while lacking character is a much better car to commute a hundred miles/day in. As much as I love my MINI, if it was a lemon like his and so many other earlier cars I would not hesitate on trading it in......wouldn't trade it in for an RSX, but probably something european.
