What is the best Diagnostic Scanner for a Mini?
Greetings Mini aficionado's...my son finally convinced me that he is old enough for his first Mini. We picked up a 2006 Cooper S with about 48K miles on it - one owner local to California. Had our mechanic look it over and all checked out. Now, in order to prepare for the future, what brand or type of diagnostic scanner do you guys use? Is it worth investing in a cheap (autozone) type scanner or a little more? I imagine the more you spend the more it "tells"?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for the input, however, the ScanGauge looks more like a "gimmick" that reads OBD codes...The Mini onboard computer already tells all the MPG,DTE etc. I was looking for something more professional that can actually help if needed - One of our friends has mentioned the Foxwell NT624 or the Foxwell NT644, has anyone ever tried these units out or owns one?
I've bought a Mac Tools ET123, a bit on the pricey side depending on how often you use it (300$), but it reads/erase engine, trans, abs, airbag codes. Compatible with all main brands, updates on Launch's website, etc. I might sounds like a salesman, but I'm not :p

The scan gague 2 does a lot more than just mileage. It give you a number of gague info that the mini dosn't. Look at there web site and you will see all that it can do for you. Have had one for over 2 years and wouldn't be without it.
I agree, the Scanguage is far from a gimmick I have had mine for years, currently have it displaying boost, water and oil temp and MPH. There are a number of different readings you can display, for the money it cant be beat, IMO.
As far as I know no code reader is going to diagnose your cars issues only give you a code. I have a scan gauge because of the amount of gauge versatility it offers along with the code reader.

If your going to buy a higher dollar one make sure that it can read BMW/MINI specific codes such as the Bavarian as seen here:
