It is time to sell!! 2002 MCS $12,500

I have a 2002 Mini Cooper S, with the supercharged 1.6L, in Electric Blue, it has 63K on it, and is modified. I just replaced the front rotors and pads, and it just got an oil change, along with brand new, less than 10 miles, Pirelli all weather tires. 6 speed manual, interior in excellent condittion, aftermarket head unit, and kenwood speakers all around.Exterior isn't perfect, but as you can see from the pictures, its better than any other 11-12 year old cars. Mods: 17% S/C Pulley, 2% Crank Pulley, 380CC Injectors, Custom Tune, Race Catback, Alta TMIC, Alta CAI, front and rear strut braces and anti-sway bars, Sport Suspension, Water/Meth spray kit, MSD wires and coil pack, Detroit Tuned BPV, 17LBS Boost Spring. The exhaust is loud but has a really good tone to it, here's a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXN0mdX61h0 The price is OBO so don't be afraid to shoot me an offer 303-408-5171, the car is in Colorado, and can meet just about anywhere in the state to show the car
It can take on stage 2 WRX's, and STI's all day long, so don't underestimate the engine, it is very fast, estimated at about 240-250 wheel horsepower

Oh heck... I'll be the first one to pour on the haterade...

1) No pictures.

2) I think you need to revise your pricing expectations for the car. At $12,500 you are unfortunately off-base. Even if you were to choose excellent for the car in KBB that equates to $6,600 (and only 3% of all cars actually qualify) but lets use it for arguments sake.

3) Mods - all those are bolt on mods - and regardless of what you spent on them; they lose value and again sadly don't add any value whatsoever to the car - in fact I would walk away from a car using a water/meth spray kit in a second. Because despite anything you told me -- I can guarantee that car has seen redline more times than Jenna Jameson has seen....you know where I am going.

4) STI's -- you are asking us to believe that you are able to handle an AWD car with 300+ hp ... again maybe your driving ability is second to none but the performance figures of the STi and the fact that I test drove a base model WRX last week as I am looking at trading in my 2003 Cooper S tells me that something is very much not right.

Anyhow good luck with the sale but I really would advise you re-think your pricing. It just has to be justifiable...and right now I really don't see how you could Justify $12,500 for this car.

I would say -- at $5,000 this car gets interesting, at $6,000 its sellable but will take some time.

BTW: Did you do any of the other maintenance items? Lower Control Arm Bushings, Upper Strut Bushing, Power Steering Pump? If you did -- those will be selling points for an enthusiast / anyone who has googled the major issues on this car.

Even giving benefit of the doubt on condition and options, KBB says $6700. Edmunds is even lower at $5,500.

Edmunds lists my 2006 JCW w/55k at $10,700

Good luck!

I listed it high, and posted twice before all your comments, I honestly couldn't care less what you guys think about the pricing or the car, I just want to go back to subaru! I miss the rumble, and I want to do an engine swap. There isn't anything good to do to minis, and it's not good enough in the snow. But I'd really appreciate it you guys would just stop commenting if you don't have any good input, it's on more than 3 forums and Craigslist, so it's not like you guys did anything here, except make yourselves look like douchebags

First, the app won't let me upload them, but there is a Craigslist post with pics, 2 I don't really care what KBB says, the market, in my area, shows that any sort of modded Mini is over 10k, 3 I didn't ask you to buy it genius, so walk away! 4 my buddy has a stage 2+ wrx that'll beat sti's, and my mini takes him on the highway, I thought that anyone with a brain would know fwd can't beat awd on launch..... Thanks for the post though..... lots of help......…

Actually all of us gave you valuable input and did it in a very respectable way. But whatever.... As for posting it here mods take this to the right section of the forum because this is not the classifieds

And while you might not care about KBB or Edmunds it's the first place anyone will go to start the negotiations with you. If your potential buyer wants to get a loan the bank will go there too and probably won't approve the loan because they would not be able to recover their money if the buyer defaulted.

Any who -- happy weekend everyone.

Killing it with kindness

Well, good luck. I see lots of cars where somebody poured thousands of dollars of upgrades, from RX-7's to 70's American muscle. They don't go for anywhere close to what you've put into it. Go for $8500 and be happy with it.

We offer advise on how to sell your car...
We stayed clear of your "for sale" listing in the market place...
We point out you are trying to sell a car for between 2-2.5 its value....and we are called doushbags...ouch!!
P.S.
I would love to see the dyno sheets on a 250 hp 2002 mini making 240-250 hp (at over 5000 feet of elevation...Colorado... Right) with just jcw380 injectors....guess lots of meth...maybe an extra turbo right. Sorry...the B.S. METER is going off....

For 12.5, I could get an old something for 5K and pour 7 into it, but still would only get 9K for it. What are you thinking dude? You can't get investments back unless a timeless roadster like a '58 jag or (input the dream car here). but then again, you probably lose anyway other than a really cool ride. I love keeping the old rides going, but hard to profit unless you get into the really nice 7 figure cars. Of course my dream car is the '65 Ferrari 250GT. but that's not going to happen...

I should preference that talking about my profession. Rebuilding Steinway grand pianos. Sure, I can get a vintage 1911 Model A grand for maybe $5K. Put $30K into it and maybe break even after labor, like $50K. Its the love of the job. We're just talking about a 10 year old car. Not collectable...yet. Perhaps someday. Right now, it's a Yamaha grand piano from the same era, worth $7K. You bought it for 5, and worked on it with $3K on parts, and your love, and then it's worth 10K. Can't help you with the market my friend.

You can never expect to get back what you put in on aftermarket mods. That's why a lot of people keep the stock parts, then swap them back when selling a car and then sell the mod parts separately. To be honest, I'm not even sure I'd buy a modded car unless I knew the driver! But hey, what do we know? Good luck!

I don't mean to flame, but seriously? You think your car has like 280hp at the crank?? lmao.

In all fairness, he did say "estimated". If you count the stickers that are probably on it, they will probably add the 50hp.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm sure you have a nice car, but in reality you are way off base on many of the things you have said.

I dunno, its pristine condition, untouched other than tint, 17in Team Dynamic wheels & Swift Springs. Came with LSD, no sunroof, cloth seats, no bells and whistles other than JCW and 15k miles.

Think i can get $21k

Remember folks...
Mods and repairs are "sunk costs", not value adds....
A mod might even make a car worth less if it indicates to the buyer the car has been run hard...indicating more wear and tear..everybody WANTS the little old lady's car...
A hardtop, LSD car is deserible to some...but usually to track junkies who want a CHEAP competitive car....sold at very much of a premium...they can just toss a LSD in during the next clutch job for under $800 added to the clutch job and know what they are getting....
Remember folks...
A NICELY EQUIPPED S, gen1, sold for about $24,000...now with 5-10 years of wear, tear, and corrosion....selling any car for more than a fraction of that ( like any car 25--30% if the hit occurs in the first 2-3 years as the warrenty and new car smell ends)...then starts a yearly slide...jcw's Have always taken a bigger hit...even on gen2 cars...selling at a slight premium to a S on the used market from what I have seen....
Gp's ARE a bit different...but most of the ones put in garages to be saved as collector cars have begun to be sold, and are getting used more, even modded....low numbers mean harder to price...

Not to pile on, but when I saw the thread title, the first thought that went though my mind was, "huh ? That's about $5-7 thousand over priced".

Given a favorable seller's market, as you claim it to be, and the low miles on it, I will say you are may not $7K over pricing the MINI but still believe you are a good $5K over.

GLWS. If you get near that asking price, more power to you ! All it takes is one buyer who values your MINI as you do.
