Brakes Question

Hello all,

I am getting ready to re-do my brakes. I think I am going with the Stoptech slotted rotors and SS lines but I am unsure of which pads to use. I have had great success with Hawk pads in the past on different vehicles, (miata, e30's...) but I know that pads perform differently with different cars and different rotors.

Preferably, I would like people that are running Stoptech's slotted rotors to chime in and say what pads they are running and how they like them. I am not to worried about dust or squeal, mainly performance. How is the Initial bite, once they are warmed up, and longevity (Fade).

What I don't want is "DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME, GET A BBK" because I just can't afford that right now!

Thanks guys

I don't have stoptech rotors, I have powerslots with Hawk HP+ pads.
They're very quiet when cold but start squealing like mad when they warm up. The bite is very good hot or cold (slightly better when warm). But, I'd be lying if I said they've never faded.
All in all, it's a great aggressive set-up for the street. Definitively not track worthy but a great bang for the buck.

Thanks for the info! It would appear the only way to escape fade is to go bigger, I may however try ducting to see if it is possible to keep them as cool as possible with stock diameter rotors. Ah mini, why didn't you realize that we would never leave these cars stock and give us larger brakes!!!!

Be careful, bigger brakes are heavier and don't necessarily translate into a faster car (sometimes yes, sometimes no).
Ducting and aggressive pads will probably be more than adequate for street use.
Keep in mind, when I've had my brakes fade it was when I was driving like I was on the track. Lots of hairpins where my right foot is completely planted on either the gas or brake.

If you read carefully, I am keeping stock diameter. I doubt that they will be much heavier than a stock plain face rotor, if anything they will be lighter. Read before you write. Brakes can fade from mountain driving, even while not carrying that much speed. Just about nothing in your post was helpful at all...

And sounding like a **** is much better...

I have cheap discs, Hawk HP+ pads, SS lines, stiffening bushing kits and Motul RBF660 fluid. The Hawk HP+ are indeed noisy when warm and turns my silver oem rims dark silver after a spirited driving session. You've said dust and noise isn't a problem, so I guess it's an option. I haven't done any track this season, so I can't speak much about the durability when abused, but they're working great on the street. Of course, I'm running into the same problem than with stock brakes, once they're really hot, the abs become annoying. I have all the hardware to make my brake cooling kit, I just need to get off my *** and do it.

Very nice. Yea it would seem cooling is the best option to get more (or at least longer) performance. I just can't bring myself to delete my fog lights, use them so much around here, especially now that the deer are running around again.
