How to Get Rid of Rattle In Hatchback Latch

Is there a surefire way of adjusting the latch on the rear hatchback door to get rid of the rattle? I can eliminate most of it except when hitting a hard bump. But doing so also means I have to slam the door hard to get it to close securely.

An unrelated question - are the seats in the '04 MC leather? We're wanting to clean it and most posts indicate that they are leather but I ran across one post saying something about "faux leather."

Hello, electric tape wrapped around the latch (the hook) worked for me. Read it on NAM. No rattles.

If you've lumbar adjustment, they're leather.

Thanks for the post since I'm having the same trouble. Will try the electrical tape fix. On the bottom of my hatch, there are two small holes close to the corners that look like there was something there at one point. Are there supposed to be rubber bumpers there?

Is your d-ring black or chrome?
These was a service campain a few years ago (5 or even 8) in which the d-ring was swapped out (free at the time )...
Fixed the rattle....wrapping e-tape on it was a temp fix....I'd buy the new d-ring.....and be done with it...
Also you rubber bumpers twist to adjust the height....can help...

Black is the revised one...
Orgional one was chrome... Like the door latch d-rings...
Sounds like the bumpers are out of adjustment...
Or the hinges on top might be getting worn/failing...that does happen is not lubed as part of regular servicing like in the phase 1/2 MX plan....

Well, the whole rear hatch has so many little dents on it that it really needs replaced. Low priority I guess.

This is awesome, I always have messed with mine to get less rattle and I'm excited to try this. Any other tips for rattles? Everything inside seems to rattle, the dash close to the windshield, the trim around sunroof, the sunroof itself when popped, of course, I have poly motor mounts and coil overs so... probably only so much you can do!!

Fr the dash, pull out the temp sensor and put a new o ring or some tape, then replace. The original o ring is proly worn, making that thing rattle. Was on my mini.
