R50/53 Have you let anyone ...drive your...MINI????
This question just popped into my head, as I was reading a post re: mileage.
My MCS has 7073 miles on it, and I can honestly say...I put on 7000 of em.
My wife ..begs...to drive it...but ...I always come up with some sort of excuse ....to prevent her from ....doing so...
All of friends have asked...and all have been told...NO
Let's here from the group ..as I'm extremely curious....
We all love it, we all talk about it....
BUT.....
Do MINI drivers...share...this great car ?
Peace

Only 1,000 mi on it so far, and I've let about 4 peolple drive my MCS. As long as I know they can use a stick, I have no problem letting them take it for a ride (short test ride, with me in the passenger seat of course).
I took the car over to show it off to one of my friends, who also happens to be my boss, and the guy who gave me a ride down to the dealership (1.75 hours each way). He trusts me with his company, I decided to trust him with my MINI. With me in the passenger seat... just around the neighborhood... not above 25 mph... not abouve 4000 RPM, and nervously.
I think it'll halp with a pay raise.

I just crossed the 1250 mark (been redlining since 1000) and my wife has driven less than 100 of that, no one else will get to drive it, my oldest daughter is still 3 years away from a learners permit and by the time she is ready, the fine instuctors at Skip Barber will have exorcised the bad driving habits out of her.

I always offer to let other people drive Winnie, but only 2 people have
taken me up on it... My Brother-in-law, who is a car nut and frequent
autocrosser was the first one to drive it. A friend and co-worker was
the other one to drive it, and only on the condition that he lets me
drive his 1960 Austin-Healey 3000 once he's gotten it restored and on
the road... Can't wait for that opportunity!
Who are we do deny others the joy of driving a MINI...

My husband drives her to move her in the driveway and around the block after he washes her for me (whataguy!
)...but I really haven't let anyone else drive her...yet! I wanted to get through the engine break-in period, first...but I don't know WHAT my excuse is now that she has almost 2800 miles!
No one drove mine before the break-in period. Well, two weeks later, I HAVE let a FEW people drive...not willingly though...they all guilted me!
I sit in the passenger seat and make sure they drive nice, shift early and easy.

Well, I let my husband drive mine as it took us three days to get home! My 18 year old daughter was quite put out when I told her that the only way she would be allowed to drive it was for me to take her to a large empty parking lot and see how she did, just like we did when she was learning to drive!
Wow. The first week I got it I let my wife, best friend, dad, father-in-law, and 3 uncles all drive it! My mother, mother-in-law, and best friend's wife all declined but were offered the chance.
Why not share all this motoring fun?!
Admittedly though, of the 7,280 miles - I have put on almost 7,000 of them.

Wow! Even though I'm psyco about keeping Buster perfect and mega clean I decided to share the fun so my family and a few friends might better understand why I'm so obessed. The drive really helps, but most are somewhat hesitant to push it when I egg them on to take corners much faster than they would think possible.Except-----My wife of 29 years was determined to shut me up and took a 15 mph blind mountain corner at 40mph.Scared the bajeebies out of both of us. She went into this 4 wheel slide but surived. She proclaimed ---See I saved it! I hated to inform her that --No ---traction control did. We laughed for 10 minutes after---I think because we we're so excited to be alive? What a blast! Four of five of our kids have gotten to drive.Even taught our 17year old daughter to drive a stick shift for the first time in Buster. I've driven Buster like an idiot from day one .Did'nt even read owners manuall for a week to find out that there was a breakin period. Red lined it and all. Was having too much fun. Buster screams now and have been told it's partly because I broke him in so hard.
Well, the Mach 4 is almost my wife's car on the weekend (hey, she let me buy it, she takes care of the bills..
), both my sisters drove it, and one of my Brother-in-laws drove it all once... hey, what's the fun of having a car that cool if you can't show people exactally how cool it is?

Only 3 people besides myself has driven Dolly. Since I had to relearn how to drive a stick once I bought her, my dad was the first one to drive her... Once his patience with my frustration at relearning standard shifting wore thin, my mom drove her. Then the 3rd person was Sean at the dealership...BUT THAT'S IT!!! Its strange...the people that I would trust her with, don't want to drive it...they are totally content with being able to just ride in it. But the people that I wouldn't even consider allowing to drive it, now they are the ones who get all upset when I kindly tell them "No, I am not giving you the keys to Dolly...so sorry."
Oh...but if Vin Diesel showed up and wanted to take her for a spin...that would be another story...and another post
LOL

I let my brother drive it, my 16 year old has driven it and oh yes my wife stole it one day when i was not home. Poor wife got caught by not knowing I keep track of miles on the odometer(good idea if you have young drivers)
After a little pleading, my brother has driven it twice (1st around our street - 1/10th mile circle a couple of times / 2nd around the neighborhood until his size 15 work boots got in the way of the pedals and I made him stop).
No one else yet. We'll see how long that lasts though.
Everyone I know at least wants a ride.

i let my girlfriend drive my electric blue S all the time even when i'm not there. i also let her take it to work. its no big deal, however, i'd be lying if i said i wasnt worried about the alloys. she's too scared to put her foot down which is understandable seems as though she normally drives a vw polo 1.0l.
I'm really loose about letting other people drive my car. as long as i know them fairly well, and know them to be responsible, i have no problem with it. I've let probably 6 or 7 other people drive my car. it's fun!
My wife drives it, and now I think we're going to be a 2 MINI family. We'll just need to keep the kids clothes tight so they don't go growing too much
One of my brother's drove it pretty hard, and it was a blast. My brothers are both real motor heads and both are impressed with the car. Both have built some pretty serious machines (one currently drives a Cobra replica) and they are truely impressed with the handling of the MINI. While the MINI is quick, it's nothing compared to some of their toys in accelleration and top end speed, but I think it's way more fun on a tight road.
