People bring this up constantly. I dont get it. Do you by your car with plans for selling it or driving it?

I got the leather seats and someone asked me if was going to get covers to save them? I said save them for who? I paid/paying for them its going to be my butt wearing them out and enjoying them.

Someone also said, wow your putting miles on. I laughed and said, thats what a car is for.

Buying for resale? Buy stocks and bonds. Buying for enjoyment while motoring buy a Mini.

stepping off soapbox...

I agree. People who trip about our cars resale especially make me laugh, when the MINI's (especially the Ss which are STILL selling for over sticker here in So Cal.) have the strongest resale out there of any new car. I don't run a bra when tooling around town, I don't have lame sheepskin seat covers and I sure as hell don't baby it when I'm driving around. Just perform routine maintenance religiously and drive the **** out of it

Yeah... I find it very funny that people think cars are investments. People always think their cars are worth millions

Wasn't it F. Bueller that said, 'Somebody with priorities that far out of whack doesn't deserve such a fine automobile' ?

>>Why resale value?

Paul, I know many people who went from one style of MINI to another and the resale helped them out tremendously by selling for nearly the price they originally paid. The high resale value of MINIs was a good thing for them

The MINI is probably the best new car to buy for under $25k because it does hold it's resale value so well.

Yes and he was making reference to someone NOT driving their "investment".

Resale is a good thing if you have to sell/trade..but if you are initially buying?? Buy to drive not plan for getting rid of it.

Can you imagine if I married my wife because she wouldn't want a lot of money from me if we separated???:D

That's always a good consideration to take into account. Ever hear of a pre-nup?

In reality it IS an investment. And we should enjoy our investment.
Now, to buy and then sell, that's another story. That's speculating.

I used to date this girl who's father was crazy about maintaining stuff for resale value. I never understood it. He'd even go so far as to cover up the fabric area behind the back seats in a sedan so that it wouldn't get sun damaged. What the hell is the point of covering something up? Thats like you never bought it! Some people. I say own the car, don't let the car own you.

That is sooo true. I know two older gentlemen who both bought new Vettes and immediately put them in storage for investment! They never drive them, just stand around talking about what it's worth now. Honestly I can't see either of the guys making money on them in their lifetime.

didn't Ferris also say "if you have the means I highly recommend you pick one up"

One of the greatest advantages of the high resale value is the fact that it will also have (and maintain) a high loan value. That means: If you need to refinance the automobile at a later date, you may actually do a "cash-out" refinance. That is almost unheard of for a car! Have you ever thought about using the equity in your car to get a loan?

Also, the high value means that if it is totaled (heaven forbid). You may actually get enough from the insurance company to buy another car. GAP insurance exists for a reason. The reason is unnecessary for this car! To me, that's pretty darn cool.

It is also entertaining to look up the value of the car every month. How many people can say that their car has gone UP in value from last month? Mine went up $400 last month in loan value alone. My boss's Park Avenue took a $3,000 hit. He now owes more than it's worth.

You ought to hang out with the Porsche crowd. I drove my 996 C4S all year, in the winter, etc. and sold is for just as much as the people who never drive in the rain. People just could not believe that I drove on dirt roads and parked outside, etc.

I agree with you. Just drive the car, keep it waxed and maintained, and have fun!

I agree with all of you. I had my last car for 9 years and 265K miles. I plan to do the same with my MC.

"Value" is a funny thing to some people. I similarly don't understand the people that refuse to buy a MINI unless they can get it for under MSRP. Who cares? The important thing is whether the car is worth that much to YOU. If not, don't buy it.

These silly people would be perfectly happy if the manufacturer jacked up the MSRP an extra $1000, then the dealer gave a $1000 discount. Suddenly it's a great deal!

Boggles the mind.

I definitely bought this car with the intention of having it for its entire lifespan. However, with all of the problems, life after warranty is starting to look very scary indeed. For that reason, I'm glad that the MINI's resale value is so absurdly high! I hope I'll have the guts to keep it, but the jury's still out.

Not driving a car to keep the miles low is saving it for the next guy or gal. I don't know who may end up with my car if I ever sell it, so I don't owe them anything. 16 months and 32,000 miles, still worth what I paid

You buy the car to enjoy it!

But a poor resale should be figured into your overall cost of ownership.

I think we all got a good deal.

Did you guys price your MINI yet on Kelly Blue book (www.kbb.com) or Edmunds (www.edmunds.com)?

Accorsing to both sites my almost 1 year old MC/CVT with 8500 miles and option packages has a current market value of almost $1000 MORE than what I paid for it.
