If it were me, I would sell the Mini and purchase a Toyota truck. As much as I love my Mini, I would feel bad putting a Mini through this kind of abuse. I would find a Double Cab 4 cylinder Tacoma because of the reputation and ground clearance for that type of driving. Should get an easy 250,000 troublfree miles out of it. Good luck !!!

I don't plan to keep my own MCS beyond the warranty period. The MINI has lots of great features but reliability is not yet one of them. As a point of reference, I would have no qualms keeping a Honda or Toyota beyond warranty.

Fortunately, the MINI is still very popular and it's resale value is holding up well so I think the prudent thing to do is to sell it yourself and buy another one -- you'll have a brand new MINI and a fresh warranty. This will also give you a chance to fine tune the options!

But whatever you do, DON'T trade it in -- you'll lose too much money.

>>Gravel is not abuse

If you feel that way, why did you bring it up as a reason to get rid of the car? Seems to me your only issue is that you're putting on alot of miles.

I think I agree. 31k and I am hoping the S convert comes out before the warrantee ends.

(However, not to tempt fate, but my MINI HAS been reliable. However, one of the things I bought for $25k, besides fun, was a warrantee. When it's up, I think it's time to move along.)

I figure if it costs me $10 grand to really, really drive this puppy hard for 50k miles, I got my monies worth. On to the next MINI!

I bought mine with the intent of keeping her until she's an old classic. Because of that I probably baby it more than I should. But now a big factor about trading it in is how well they hold their value. There are few of them yet where I live. A used 2002 did pop up at a local dealership. They were asking almost as much as I paid for my 03 new, and mine has more on it. I doubt that will continue, but it would give me incentive to trade-in for a new one in a couple of years. Especially as bugs in the MCS get worked out.*

Current car - CR/W MC

Lustmobile - IB/W MCS

I have a second car for Winter and other bad driving conditions. I agree, though, these are rally cars and can handle it.

No flame intended against MCS's

Trade now. With Cabrio coming out, and other MINI owners starting to pile on miles as yourself - I suspect some will trade in for the Cabrio, or 2005 model with fresh warranty & service deal. Resale values are excellent right now....

I drive my car in rallies, going over all kinds of gravel, and you should see the paint chips I've got. I've owned him 6 months and I just rolled 10,000 miles.

My plan :

Drive him until he's paid off!
Have him repainted - if needed from the rock chips!
Put him in the garage, saving him for weekends, car shows, etc....
Buy a 2nd MINI and keep motoring ....
