I was told at the dealer the valve in the Glove box connects to the aircon vents and can cool a can of coke if you wanted.

Has anyone heard this. What is the practical reason for the valve in the Glove Box?

I have an 03 MCS not sure if everyone has this.

Yes, the glove box is climate controlled - you can read about it on MINI's site - they make a joke about keeping a sandwhich there or something.

I've actually used it several times when i first had the car on a hot sept. day to keep cool an OJ in the morning on my way to work from starbucks.

I think I used it as more of a novelty thatn usefulness. I never use my AC anymore.. but if you do.. then maybe you'll use it!

It also heats the glovebox if you wish.

Are you saying the dealer has to do something to make it work? We were told about it, but it does not blow hot or cold air, just air.

the dealer can't turnon or off teh function its just a vent in the glove box, you can't independently control teh temperature inside nice feature rarely used but hey it's there and its nice to have warm gloves in the winter and cool drinks in teh summer

Its basically just another A/C vent. It will blow the same temp air as is coming through your vents. But since it is throwing the air into a tight space, it should be cooler or warmer in the glovebox than the cabin, depending on what you set the system to...

You should be able to turn it on and off, check your manual.

One can indeed turn off or on the glovebox climate control. There exists a small (about the size of a glue stick cap) rotary switch on the in-board side - towards the radio - of the compartment that will regulate the flow of air to the interior of the glovebox.
Keeps my M&Ms fresh in the summer and my chili dogs warm in the winter!

On BRG cars that valve emits an odorless gas that anesthetizes the owner to the ugliness of his/her car and prevents him/her from seeing how most other people are ridiculing the poor judgment of the BRG buyer. It is only an urban legend that the gas has double potency in the frozen north.

Putting a chilli dog in your glovebox will void the warranty. MM's are OK.

Why would you even think of putting a chilli dog in your glovebox?

If not "power" one, perhaps it could be used for chilling the bong water during a long, hot summer night at the drive-in movies!!! How cool (and totally idiotic) would it be to have some refrigeration hoses running out of your glove-box striaght to the chamber of a big glass bong (custom moulded to the floor, of course).

use the heat off of the block to vaporizer, then run a chamber thru the glovebox to cool.... hmmm.... i knew *cough* someone in college who made a 4 chamber out of 4 baby food containers that sat in a bucket of ice, (during finals of course).

Heh... if you've ever seen the movie Half Baked that's what they refer to as a "utility smoker"...

I would SO be all over a project like that if it wouldn't make me seem like a total waste of flesh (having just "finished" my college years and all); that's not even considering the physical damage to my baby such a project would inflict of course

If anyone out there is crazy (or blasted) enough to try this, do share some pics

Not to bring this thread back to reality but does anyone know if installing the glove box organizer effects the cooling/heating of the box?

Oh we were well within reality.... just a carefully selected subset thereof

To answer your question; I think (don't have one myself, just seen others) that the organizer has side walls that do, in fact, block the vent coming into the box. If anyone actually has one to measure that would be great

As I said earlier, it's not a terribly useful feature (I think); you'd probably get MUCH more use out of the organizer than you would benefit from having it (slightly) climate controlled.
