Having a key made

Does anybody know who can cut a new key? I only have one and would like a spare to unlock the door incase I lock mine inside. Dont know if you have to go somewhere special with that type of groove in the key, thanks

I was just in your shoes not to long ago. I bought a mini uncut electric key from eBay that was 70 bucks. Then I programed it using the hold center button and three clicks on and on method. Then I had to get it cut at a locksmith cause home depot can't. It cost me another 50 bucks. Then I go into my car to see if it starts. It turns in perfectly but can't engage the starter. Theirs one more chip in the key that I can't program. Only the dealer can. So right now I have a 120 dollar spare key that I can't even start my car with only lock it and unlock it lol. I'm curious how much will the dealer charge me to program my theft chip.

So the answer to your question is either a dealer or lock smith

Ouch, that stinks, I just got one of those flip keys for $10, switching the insides over but the blade wont change over, so I need it cut and then use my old, tired key for just the doors for emergencies, thanks for the reply

Get a non remote key from the dealer, I think that it will cost you around 75 to 80 bucks or get a remote key for around 250.00 I think , call the dealer first it's free lol and start from there

if you think about it i saved a lot of money by not going straight to the dealer for an additional key. but one problem is that the i cant start the car cause of the anti bs chip.

Only choice is the dealer....no real work-around for the imoblizer.
been discussed, and rehashed in a thread every few months....
Sorry...expect to show proof of ownership, pay about $200. The key will be SHIPPED to the dealer...so the first step can be done by phone/fax....
Warning....if the car has had more than 6 keys in the past (unlikly), the module that reads the ews will need to be replaced at extra $$.

Another issue is the e-bay keys CANNOT be programmed by the dealer...the imoblizer chip just don't work right...a few have tried it.

I am looking to replace my master key also. Is the immobilizer programming the same for all years? I have an '02 and the parts guys tell me I have to have it programmed...the service advisor says no. Now I'd love to believe the SA, but I think the parts guys are correct (at least from my experience here at my work...the SA's don't usually know the answers, I have to correct mine at another brand dealership all the time). If this holds true, then you're going to have to go to MINI...I have customers who buy e-bay keys all the time, we cannot program them, just won't read with our HDS units)

In a perverse kind of way, they ARE BOTH RIGHT....
the keyless portion of the remote can be self programmed....
The imoblizer MUST be dealer programmed....(often shipped to the dealer preprogrammed to work with YOUR car).
In my experience, many car folks around dealers are not tye best at decribing exactly how things work....just know that if you want another fully working key, the dealer is really the only option.
It has been discussed....you could move YOU BLADE and Imoblizer chip (and remote door opener) to a new e-bay key body....a new looking key...but you will only have one....mess it up...ouch.
"Face lift", aka 2005+ gen1 cars came with 3 keys, 2 remote keys, and a PLASTIC BLADED wallet emergency key (non-remote), but with the imoblizer chip in it.
dealers often have a non remote manual key for less $$.
but message to all..if the used car does not have ALL the keys....it reduces the value of a used mini by about $300-500..
The cost of getting new keys......
