I was reer ended yesterday with only 650 miles on the clock!

The damage is to the rear bumper "cover" only, and pretty minor. Has anyone had this piece repaired/replaced? Looking for a ball park cost.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear about this. If the damage is a scape then painting might be enough and be less costly than to replace the bumper and repaint. See a body shop for an estimate but check their work for quality first.

Insurance will pay for the repair, if you get an estimate it should be accurate.
Probably replacing the bumper is more than your deductible. Painting only might not be.

You can call or email Brian at classic auto campus to get the cost on the bumper part if needed.
Another option is to find an owner that upgraded to the aero rear bumper for the MCS and has a spare rear bumper. You can look for one the same color or pay to have it installed and painted to match your MINI.

Or buy the aero rear bumper and paint it to match your MINI. Retails for $326 unprimed.

Thanks. minihune. Sound and comprehensive advice as always.

I already checked with Classic, and the bumper would be about $250 shipped. My guess is that I could have it painted and installed for around $500. The aero bumber is an interesting thought...

I'm going to give the other driver the option of "settling" this outside of insurance. No deductible loss for me and no premium increases for them.

I was just in this exact situation about a month ago- I wasn't sure what the cost would be and since it was a multiple car accident (luckily? I was only hit and didn't do any hitting of my own- so no fault)- I decided to just go through my insurance. Turns out the repair to replace the rear bumper cover and paint it cost about $575 (ofcourse my deductible is 500!) - The good news is that since I wasn't at fault- the other guys insurance company paid my deductible after the fact. So didn't cost me anything in the end. What a bummer though-

I dunno where you're located- but if your in LA- I would recommend Als Body Shop (that's where I went- they did a great job- and do ALOT of MINI work)

Sometimes it sux having better brakes than most cars on the road.

Good luck-

-S

This happened to me, too, and my MINI wasn't even two months old yet.

Fortunately, the guy stopped and he was insured. His company paid to replace the cover for around $750. I don't know if all body shops do it this way, but mine painted the new cover before installing it so there was no issue of masking, overspray, etc.

btw, because the car was so new, I also asked for and received diminished value compensation.

Thanks for the info, 911fan - what was the "diminished value compensation" worth?

Check with your state's insurance laws first. Florida has such provision for "Diminished Value" claims (Insurance companies don't want you to know about it) for driver's whose cars have been damaged and they have not been at fault.

The insurance company was willing to go up to 50% of the repair cost without a fuss (that's what I got). This seemed reasonable so I didn't attempt to seek any additional amount.

I'm sure if it had been a more expensive car, I could have justified a higher dollar claim (ie, beyond their 50% no-fuss limit).

Of course, I wouldn't have gotten anything if I had caused the accident!

Actually (for all those following this fascinating story) the jcw has separate tip pieces which clamp to the main pipes. One of these had been knocked out of alignment and I was able to reposition it. No major surgery required.

You mean you bent it back by eye.

One thing about collisions is other damage that you can't see. So I'd check everything in the rear from the lights to the rear boot hatch to the suspension and full exhaust system for any damage. Hard to see all that is back there until you get up close.

You might want to try and find someone who put the areo kit on their car and has a leftover bumper. Used ones go for around $100 on ebay. I got parallel parking tagged and I've been keeping my eyes open for a black rear bumper. I hear they are very straightforward to install.

Good luck!

When it happened to me it was repaired by MINI. At the time
I was told their were sensors under the bumper that also
needed to be replaced. The other guys insurance paid...the
damage looked minor but it was expensive to repair. You may
want to get the car checked by MINI. Also when the fascia was
removed, although it was low speed at a light, there was damage
below. I initially thought it would just be a minor patch and paint job.
Do you have the brake light mod?

XAlpha- What color car do you have? I have a BGR MCS coming in two weeks, I had the Aero kit installed and would give you a great price on the rear and for that matter front and side pieces if you like.

PM me if interested.

Steve

yup, I got hit in a parking lot with only 150MI on my odo Replacing it is 5 bolts, and a few clips. Shouldn't take too long, tho, a couple of hours- max.

Be sure the impact bar wasn't damaged, that costs $160, I think...

My rear-end got pretty banged up in my driveway from my sister's pathfinder . I have front and rear aero bumpers and after overpaying for them a few months ago, I ordered a new rear aero bumper from classic auto campus at a great price. Highly recommended.

There's an aluminum support behind the bumper cover which is probably bent if the bumper cover is cracked. It will cost about $900. to replace bumper cover and aluminum support. Will likely vary depending on hourly rate in your area.

I got rearended about 6 weeks ago as well and again.. it wasn't any major damage. I thought my rear end would be messed up, but that bumper below the boot simply got a little trashed.. I think the part was $250, or whatever.. my body shop ordered the parts, painted the bumper, i brought it in when they were ready to be put on. It took half an hour and I was out of there. No biggie at all, haha. And of course my insurance took care of it and the deductible is waived cause it wasn't my fault some drivers don't like to wear their glasses when they drive, haha.
