R50/53 Do drivers of larger vehicles try and intimidate MINI's?
A few months back I posted on the subject of some drivers not wanting to be passed by a MINI.
It seems that of late I have had several drivers of both larger cars and Pick up trucks and SUV's come up fast on my rear end when I'm doing the posted speed limit.
Most of this action is on city streets and not the freeways. I don't think these drivers are trying to get a closer look
Kinda like the bully on the play ground

I think they purposely park around my car so that I cannot find it.
This also really bugs me, this is my first NEW car I have ever owned. The thought of a careless huge door knocking over my car freaks me out. I will probably need a 'time-out' if-when it happens.

Honestly, what I do when someone is coming up quick on my tail is I wait a little bit to see if they'll back off. Then if they don't, I wash my windshield with the wipers. That gives them a nice wake-up call.

I think we're all just a tiny bit OVEROBSESSED with our cars and think everyoone's actions or inactions have to do with the beasties.....in reality....we are pretty much invisible to the vast majority of people....all Billy BOb and or Ethel see is a furring little thang..........
Hi All,
I thought this would be a fitting opening post for me, as I currently drive (take a deep breath), a Hummer H2.
I know, I know, it is something I'm not proud of.
One great consideration in purchasing a MINI was the fact of the fine people on this board. Ever since I found it a few weeks ago, I find that I can't stay away -- it's just such a great place to hang out.
Cheers,

I agree with PKT RKT most people are unaware of was it going on around them ,but kids see the car coming for miles ,I like watching the people who want to look at the MINI,but are to bashful to outright stare,so they take peeks at you while driving by.
I always wave at them .and to the truck owner a few posts back ,on the highway I,m busy looking for bambi, to see you wave, sorry

I do the same thing. It really pisses off the *****-envy crowd in their big tough poxy barges. After all, they don't actually want to get their "off road" vehicles wet!
It amazes me how threatened these clowns are when a small car passes them. They can be cruising along at 65 miles an hour in the second lane and if I pass in the fourth lane at 70 ro 75 I can guarantee that he will be on my *** in a matter of moments. When I used to ride a bike I had old spark plugs to "drop" onto their windshields and, with a sunroof, it is really tempting now.

I get people so close to the boot that I think they can read my speedometer! Large vehicles think can can automatically go faster than you. It is fun to have someone pull up you a** and then move to the left lane to pass you on the left. At that point, I toast their cookies and leave them wondering why they changed lanes.
The windshield wiper thing works great too! I have had many people mysteriously have to turn theirs on after I start washing mine. Don't figure?

Hi Justyn,
Welcome to NAM! Happy to hear about your upcoming switch to the brave new MINI world. You are not alone, others here have renounced their SUV/truck addictions and, as far as I know, none have regretted their decision.
I myself sold a car sized SUV, and once my MINI is here, the p/u will be used soley for hauling jobs.

The problem with your H2 is that it isn’t large enough! Don’t sell it, trade it for an original Hummer.
It has been my experience that if you don’t do it to excess, then you’re not doing it enough!

In PHX, driver's of larger vehicles try and intimidate anything else on the road. It's in their nature. I've seen them on numerous occassions try to bully Semi trucks, cement trucks!! Their big vehicle gives them an over confidence which leads to their bullying tacticts.

>>I just think because they drive a bigger vehicle and the MINI is smaller they may think its fun to hassle a MINI driver

I used to drive a 2000 Dodge Ram Sport Quad Cab 4x4 in Solar yellow. You could spot it 10miles away. I would use it's size to intimidate people all the time. Not people doing the speed limit but people using the fast lane to go slow, people cutting in/out of traffic w/o turn signals, and people cutting me off and braking. I used to love straddling road debris and watching air dams getting smashed on cars tailgaiting me. Now w/ the MINI I don't have the size advantage but most people trying to mess w/ me are shocked at the manueverability and speed especially when you zip around a huge chuck of tire on the interstate.
I purchased the H2 for my home business, as I haul lots of boxes to various shipping places. This is my only concern in trading it, as I really need the space. There just isn't any other vehicle that I'd rather have than the MINI though.
I actually had my name on the list when the MINI was a concept car a few years ago.
I see both sides of the spectrum, as I myself have a 63' VW Beetle, and my fiancee' has a 02' New Beetle (my old car). When we are in the VW's, we constantly have people on our bumpers or cutting in front of us, but that seems to all change when we get in the H2.
Thanks for the warm welcome!

This post is making me rethink my anti-SUV vanity plate plans. Don't want some fool in an SUV to take it personally and run my little car over.

Cars can come up behind you? That only seems to happen at traffic lights.
Maybe its the aggressive look of my MINI from the front (black stripes, black scoop, yellow tinted rally lights) but cars pull out of the fast lane to let me by more often than not it seems.
My biggest related issue is the idiots in SUVs who either try to change lanes into me, or pull out in front of me then take forever to get up to the speed limit, especially when it's a 3 lane road!

The biggest intimidation factor is while riding my bicycle. In 15 years of competitive cycling and touring on my bicycle I have never had a car hassel me. It is always a truck or SUV....
A little off-topic, but related.

Yeah good idea. You don't want to call attention upon yourself from some wacko on an SUV.

You sound the same as the person who speeds up after a MINI passes them. If you were already going as fast as you wanted, why speed up and "toast their cookies"? Just because they caught up to you and were on your butt for a second?
I like to let them go on ahead and flush out the cops for me.
