>>Honestly, what I do when someone is coming up quick on my tail is I wait a little bit to see if they'll back off. Then if they don't, I wash my windshield with the wipers. That gives them a nice wake-up call.

Try moving to the right lane when that happens. No matter how fast I go, I will always yield to someone going faster. And then, they make a good "rabbit" to follow.

And yes, drivers of SUV's do not like being passed by MINI's. Just lead then in to a tight turn!

Regards,
Red

Always better to let a large SUV or sports car go flying past you. This way (as you guys said) it flushs out the cops. I call it a runner, this way you have a runner for the cops to chase while you cruise behind just above the speed limit

Wish it worked like that around here. The traffic officers in my area are lazy i guess cuz' the like to go for the speeder in the back, easier to catch.

>>The biggest intimidation factor is while riding my bicycle. In 15 years of competitive cycling and touring on my bicycle I have never had a car hassel me. It is always a truck or SUV....
>>
>>A little off-topic, but related.

I LOOOOVE running over cyclists with my F-350.....almost as fun as crushing unsuspecting old ladies.......

....maybe the SUVs are so obsessed with getting in front of MINIs so the brood of kids in the back can gaggle at your sweet cars..."mommy, mommy go faster we want to see that cool car, which is obviously better than this piece of junk you had daddy buy you"....or maybe not.

I agree, I always love to have a cop magnet pass me, especially when I'm getting into an area where cops are known to hide out.

People, be cool out there. On the highway, pick a speed and stick with it. Don't speed up when people pass you, just let 'em go by. In many states, speeding up while someone is attempting to pass is illegal. Even if it's not illegal, it's poor road etiquette. If I'm passing you, it's because you've already proven to me that you're going slower than I am. It's not personal, there's nothing wrong with that, just let me pass and forget about it. You've had your chance, now let it go.

And please practice good left lane etiquette. The left lane is for passing. If someone comes up behind you, obviously going faster than you are, please move to the right and let them by (as soon as it is safe to do so of course). Don't worry about how fast they're going, don't hold 'em up just because you think they're going too fast for conditions -- if they're going to wreck, you want them as far from you as possible (and not right on your bumper), so just let 'em go by.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here. I wish some of the bad drivers out there would read this

My favorite is when you pass someone who's going quite a bit slower than you, but then speeds up to keep you from passing. Eventually though they'll come up to a slower car in the right lane and will have to slow down (I call this "setting a pick&quot. So you get past, then of course they jump in the left lane behind you and ride your ***. Then after you pass the slower car you return to the right lane because of course you are practicing good lane etiquette. Then the first guy passes you, gets back in the right lane, and slows back down to the speed that caused you to pass him in the first place. So you have to start the whole process all over again.

I guess I get more "mileage" out of picking up on the whole MINI vibe built on giving the other guy the right-of-way. You know...the whole "plug-the-meter" thing. Seriously...I get more thumbs up and smiles going out of my way to let other cars in and stopping for pedestrians, doggies, and the like. It's so worth it IMO, but then I do live in a pretty unagressive community compared to other places.

That said, I did have a pickup try to keep up with my MINI once. I was stopped at a light waiting to make a left...the truck was behind me also waiting. The roads were slightly wet as I recall. The light turned green and I did a typical launch and made my left. I guess the truck was intent on keeping up because I looked in my rear-view mirror and the pickup was making its left, fishtailing back and forth all over the place, wheels aspinnin'. It looked REAL funny! That's got to be the worst possible vehicle for keeping up with MINIs!!! What was he thinking?!?!?!

I wish the same, thanks for the writeup. It should be posted around streets, or at least in the DMV handbooks, those books should have more etiquette in there so young new drivers might understand it too, hehe.

>>I just want to yell, "dude I'm just passing your car. It's not a threat to your manhood! Please don't cry..."

Exactly!!

I nominate jds to be “MINI Poster Child of 2004”

If we all would follow his lead and be polite when driving in traffic, then this would be a much better and safer world! The competitive driving should be reserved for the track and the spirited driving practiced only when there is nobody else to endanger!

Ive been bothered by SUV's and Minivans (especially Caravans) but I think
most of them are just jealous and intimidated by the fact that we have cool cars and they don't have the money or time to get that kind of luxury of their own.
I just pardon them and let them pass.

I tend to get people that drive right up on my rear, stay there for a while despite the fact that the left lane is totally clear, and then finally pull into the left lane like a madman and speed up and cut right back into the right lane. Mind you, I'm going the speed limit, staying in the right lane, driving with no maniacal tendencies to avoid wrecks, getting pulled over, etc., and these chumps act as if I shouldn't have been given my driver license  I don't know if it's the fact that I drive a smaller car and some adults resort to their childhood bullying days or if a lot of people out there need a course in anger management!
