Random reset

Hey folks,

Been a long while since I've posted here. Blue Brummie has been running great until just this past week when out of nowhere, I noted a very strange behavior.

3 times this past week, after starting the car or even turning the key to the run position, I noted that the trip odometer had been reset to 0, along with Average MPG, and Average Speed. I'm totally **** about recording my mileage, etc, so this really caught my attention. Then, just this morning, I also noted that in addition to the odometer being reset yesterday, my clock had also been reset, and that my iPod adapter wasn't being recognized. I shut down the car, turned it back on then my iPod worked fine (nothing else changed).

Anybody else had this problem, and is this a precursor to a bigger electrical problem ??

Thanks for any advice/guidance,
Erick

Could be one of the quirks of a bad battery. How old is it?

+1 on the battery. Check there first. Could also be a corroded terminal.
I had a similar issue a couple months ago and it turned out that the connector in the engine bay was a little lose. 2 turns or the nut and my issue was solved. Good luck.

Thanks guys, I'll give this a look first thing tonight. This is only my 2nd battery, and it's less than 3 years old, so hoping it's not the battery itself, but just the connection. Fingers crossed.

Thanks,
E-

This may be apples and oranges, but I had a similar issue on my motorcycle. I use the odometer exclusively so I don't end up having to push it! It turned out to be a fuse.

Again I know a MINI is not a Honda but might be worth a check?

Hey Skipnstones,

Are you saying that the fuse was blown, or not seated well?

Erick

Wow, I was meaning to post something like this. I probably need a new battery then too. Mines an 07 with an original battery.
Anyhow, I noticed different weird things.

-My DRLs are disabled and one day I went to start the car and the DRLs are back on.

-My Door locking at 10km/h was also disabled and randomly turned back on again.

-My seatbelt chime was also disabled and was turning back on again.

This all happened for a day and a bit. I was depressed I couldn't drive on my fogs...
Lol maybe time for a new batt!

In my case the fuse was blown. Again, this was for my bike.

Looking at my manual, you might want to look at these fuses:
F5 5A
F9 5A
F21 10A
F22 15A
F30 5A

Or have your battery checked out. Good luck.

Chances are yes. When batteries in our MINI's go, they do some strange things to the electronics.

OK, great. I'll have a look. It seems from the other comments that I probably do have an intermittent contact on the battery. Hopefully it's not a dying battery since I've had it less than 3 years.

Then if less than 3uears, should still be under warranty... Go get it tested before wasting your time looking for a loose link...
