R50/53 Welcome me to the darkside.

>>Initial impression: 55 miles into it... MAN they were not kidding when they said the getrag trannny is SUPERIOR
What did you pay for the upgrade and how many miles did you have on your MC?

Congrats. I'll be doing the same, though a bit further toward dark, when I trade my year old PS/B MC in for a CR/W JCW (or Dinan, remains to be seen) MCS. Never having even driven an S, I expect the seat of my pants to get quite a bit of wear.
>>the pulley begs for me... like all mcs owners.. I will resist for.. who knows how short a time..
Welcome to the, errr... "darkside"?? Well, not really.
As an MCS owner I don't really think of the MCS as the darkside.
I thought this thread was going to be about buying a different brand like Honda or Toyota. Not that they have much to offer than can compete with the funness of a MINI.
As for the pulley. No break in is needed so do your standard break in first and get to know your MCS stock. Drive it at least 1000-2000 miles stock. More is better. Then when you do a mod you can feel the difference it makes.
A 19% reduction pulley and intake would do nicely for starters later.
I have noticed that. If you have a highly modded MINI and switch to driving a stock MINI you can tell the difference more easily than if you drive a stock MINI and then try a modded one. Yes you can tell when you drive it either way but I think you learn how to drive the modded MINI with a larger performance envelop and when you try the same kind of driving in a stock MINI you see that the performance is just not there-you reach the limit sooner.

I had it since early sept 03 - and when I bought the cooper I had never modded a car and never thought I would want to..
and then you guys ruined my life.. with all this talk of exhausts, intakes, wheels, brakes...
so i realized that I should get an S, which in my opinion, seems more fun to mod... and the time was right - managed to get a good deal with my trade-in.. so I did it.
minihune - as for mcs owning to be the darkside... (shane lets his inner-geek out)... if we assume all cooper-owning to be the force (mc or mcs) and yoda himself admits that the darkside's force is stronger..
than which cooper is the darkside?
ok, i should be driving now.. (and i DID mount the 205/40/17 parada spec-2's after seeing their load capacity was the same per my other thread - 1102lb.) Now if I can just calculate the speedo difference

Welcom to the darkside sdanaher
To calculate the speedo error just get on a highway with mile markers and time yourself going 60 miles hour. Divide 3,600 (number of seconds in a hour)by the number of seconds it takes and that is you MPH. By the way, the amount of error varies with speed, the percent at 60 MPH will be different than say 120 MPH. Hope that helps you.

We bought our regular old MCs the same year and month. At first I was glad I didn't go MCS because it seemed plenty fast already and I read all the problems with stumbling and yo yo-ing. Now...well, despite on-going problems with troopers (about to post about that) I want faster.
So please let us lightweights with regular Coopers know your continued impressions between the two.

speed aside, it is money well spent.. im sure most mc to mcs converts will agree.
I did 210 miles since purchase (rushing through breakin) and it feels a lot better
and i love(d) my mc. i'm not doing any mods (except my wheels, which are on) until at least 1500 miles.

I just loved pepper white... and yes, i did, and still do prefer the looks of the MC. But i'm more concerned with driving my car than looking at it
something i didn't realize until i found out how much fun driving can be.
That said, i look forward to having the added engine compartment stuff, ie. intercooler, to clean. The MC engine is so easy to clean

I, too, have recently crossed over. 1.5 years and 25k miles on an MC. Now about 400 miles into an SW. I loved the Cooper, but have absolutely no regrets about swapping "up". I'm still breaking in the new car, but even at partial throttle and <4500rpm, it feels obscenely quick and suprisingly smooth. The Cooper is an incredible car - the S just fills it out with a full 360-degrees of acceleration opportunities. And the sound of the supercharger combined with a well-tuned exhaust note is very sweet to these ears. If this is the dark side, then I am fully nocturnal.
I lasted about 4,800 miles until I couldn't contain my enthusiasm any longer and made, nay was obligated, to change the pulley (15%). What a tremendous change. The power comes on at a lower rpm, and just keeps building until the rev limiter ends my F-1 fantasy. With the pulley, I lasted another 11,000 miles until I did the ECU (Unichip) and CAI. It's like a deja vu all over again. More power, and the sweetest supercharger whine via the Alta airbox.
