engin bay spinning noise - washer and bolt-like

Hi all,

Searched the forum for engine noises - lots in there, but not quite what mine sounds like.

It takes the form of a spinning sound coming from the engine.

Best way to describe it is it's akin to a washer spinning on a bolt - a sort of metallic rustle when I put on some gas, but not a friction-type or loud "big" sound: it goes away once revs pick up. I guess that its a worn bearing of some sort, but I'm no expert.

Other than that, it's a great car - R53, 03 plate - with very occasional Chewbacca clutch noise.

Apologies in advance if this has been covered.

Paul

2 things I would check are the belt tensioner pulley and the idler pulley.

ok sounds like a plan - my Mini is due a full service soon including a belt change, I'll have to ask the mechanic to check for these as well. They may as well do these during belt change.

Thanks Braminator

The sound you are describing is slightly reminiscent of the sound a sc makes when the water pump pto is very low on oil....then it goes away as the remaing oil is splashed around.
Usually only makes this sound on the first startup....since you make it sound like ut is anytime you are at slow idle, hopefully sonething else!
