OK fellow Mini owners. Who makes the best Mini car cover for the price? I have heard good things about the NOAH cover. Any opinions?

I have NOAH car cover, custom fit design. I love it and use it religiously daily. Downside, it is a bit bulky. I just roll it up and put in my shed till I get home in the evening. Some one sells the MINI cover on ebay for 129.00 with the cable lock. That is where I got mine.

I would not buy the MINI car cover as sold by the MINI dealers for $198.00 This cover is not made well and it scratched my MINI when I used mine last year.

However I would sell you my MINI cover only used once for a very affordable price

I agree, but my spouse has it. I get the carport, but she agreed to let me purchase a Mini Cooper, so I am OK with it!

dgibbphoto seals the decision. I am ordering a Covercraft Noah cover. Nothing but positive comments.

After shopping online this morning, I have decided to go with the Covercraft NOAH cover. Best price I found is through BIG SKY CAR COVERS in Montana at $128.00. Everybody else sells this for around $150. Here is the link...

I second the comment on the MINI factory outdoor cover. Got one at dealer cost,($118), when I bought my MINI. Got it home, opened the box and looked at it and returned it for a refund. Absolute plastic POS.

Thanks Resmini.....Amazing that an OEM cover by Mini/BMW would be so crappy. It almost seems like marketing the Mini is #1, other stuff is less of a priority.....

UV Protection?

At the risk of sounding the fool, do these covers provide UV protection? I'll be storing my MCS in the garage while at home, but when I choose to drive it to work and leave it parked out in the lot all day, I'd like to protect the exterior from UV damage (or is this something I shouldn't be concerned with at all?)

I'm sure the cover provides lots of UV protection. This is important for the exterior but also important to the interior where damage oftens occurs due to the extreme heat caused by direct sunlight.

I have purchased a number of car covers over the years. The material is probably more important than the manufacturer, but I have been very pleased with Covercraft. I prefer their Poly Cotton material cover. It is light, very easy to wash and store and soft on the car, preventing scratches.

Now, that said, it is important to match the cover to your need. It sounds like you need one for weather protection. I don't use my covers that way. I cover the car while it is in the garage, or outdoors when it is not raining or threatening to rain.

The comment about a garage being the best cover is not correct. The best cover is a carcover in place over a car while it is IN the garage. Parking a car in the garage without cover allows dust and all sorts of nasty things to settle on the paint. Also, if the neighbors cat makes it in the cover offers protection.

Good luck,

cover

I have the Covercraft Weathershield HD cover from Big Sky, It fits beautifuly and does protect well. It is designed for outside storage Expensive!

I paid an extra $12. for the bag and lock/cable. It was not shipped with the cover. I called and they promised they would send it. They didn't, nor did they refund the $12. I won't be buying from them again....

How long have you had the cover? Don't give up on getting your 12 bucks back.
Call them, go to their website and leave an e-mail. Demand the 12 dollars or the bag and lock/cable.

I'm looking for a cover I can use outside in Northern California year-round (worst we get is rain in the winter, very rarely freezing temps at night). I live in the dorms at my school and the car will always have to be in the parking lot outside, never will be able to garage it. It seems like the NOAH is the way to go, but I have some questions for people:

1) Is NOAH the name of a type of fabric, or the name of a specific product offered by CoverCraft and CoverCraft only?

2) Does anyone sell the NOAH products in different colors? I think it would be cool to get a bright blue cover to match my new Hyper Blue S.

3) Since I'm going to have an 05, I have to be concerned with the new antenna. I see on the CoverCraft sold by Big Sky that it has an 'antenna hump'. Does the antenna on the 02-04 MINIs sit in the same place as the antenna on the 05's? If so, maybe I can just cut a small hole for the new type of antenna where the hump is on the current one. I hate to cut a hole in it but it's better than having no cover or waiting until one is released for the 05.

Thanks!

Covercraft

I just purchased a custom-fit car cover from Car Cover World that sells Covercraft. I got the Evolution 4 ply cover. It fits perfectly and comes with a free bag and cable lock. It was $120. with $12.50 shipping. The elastic in both ends is very strong and the cover fits snug around the bottom and the wheels. There are 3 colors. Blue, Gray & Tan. It arrived in about 10 days. Excellent cover. I'm very happy with it.

Check out the offerings from California Car Cover Co. www.calcarcover.com . They have several different grades depending on what you want to protect your car from. Whatever you get be sure that you also get a duster and use it each time before you cover your car. Putting a cover (any cover) on a dusty or dirty car will cause scratches as the cover moves over the car. Also as the inside of the cover picks up the dust and dirt, gets dirty and can scratch the finish too. Having said that I even cover my cars when they are sitting even when they are in the garage to keep the desert dust from getting everywhere. About once a year I take the covers to the cleaners for a ride in a commercial washing machine.......................mgg

It would seem to me that the WeatherShield by Covercraft is superior to the NOAH. You can read about the two here:

http://www.carcoverworld.com/Weathershield.asp
http://www.carcoverworld.com/Noah.asp

The WeatherShield appears to be smaller and more lightweight while protecting the car better than the NOAH, and it also comes in cool colors (a bright blue that appears to match Hyper Blue relatively well ). Since I want to store the cover in the car when I'm not using it, the smaller size is a definite factor for me, and probably many other MINI owners. Unfortunately the price is about $60 more, but if it is a better fit for my needs, that's not a problem for me. Does anyone have any reason why I shouldn't buy the WeatherShield, besides price?

Thanks!

Only one and it probably isn't very important. The Weathershield cover is so thin that it offers absolutely no impact protection. The Noah and to an even greater extent, Evolution, fabrics are thick enough to offer some protection from small hailstones, falling gumballs, door dings and other misshaps that can occur. The biggest problem with Noah and simuliar fabrics is they hold dirt like a sponge and transfer it to your car unless they are cleaned often.

resmini, thanks. So the Weatheshield doesn't hold dirt as much as the others also? I realized that it was so thin that it wouldn't be an impact protection thing, but I think that's probably okay. I noticed that on their chart and thought about it. I certainly don't need to worry about hail, although I do have to worry somewhat about the ineptness of my fellow students when it comes to cars. But I think the WeatherShield offers so many advantages in being lightweight, etc, that the one downside of not offering impact protection is alright. My old car's cover was definitely not made for impact proteciton either. I saw a picture of how small you can pack the WeatherShield cover and I was very impressed. It'll fit nicely in the MINI's boot.

Now my only decision is color. I am definitely getting the bright blue to match my Hyper Blue, but I am trying to decide if I want it all bright blue or if I should get the black/bright blue combination. AJUSA.com has the WeatherShield for a great price compared to everywhere else - about $165. The one benefit of the black/blue combo is that it makes it easier to see how to put on the cover when it is all bunched up.. But I think I like solid bright blue better... I can also get them to embroider anything on the front, like "MINI" in big black letters. Hmmm...

Have them put your address on it in big letters. Easy to spot. That way the car cover belongs at that address. I did that for my BMW on the street and never lost the cover.

I'm not too concerned about it being stolen - I live in a pretty crime-free area of the country, and if I'm anywhere where I'm worried about it I'll just use the cable lock. I'd rather have it say "MINI" if anything.
