Just bought a can of sea foam....

Hi all.

I've been scanning the threads and google for info on how to do the sea foam procedure properly. I've noticed lots of video's and info on newer models but haven't so far found anything on the older ones like mine.

I have an 03 base model with automatic trans.

The can I got says "Sea foam spray-cleaner and lube". I don't see anything about putting it in the gas tank which I wasn't going to do anyways but i've seen it mentioned in other threads.

I was hoping someone could verify for me which hose I should put it into?

I'm no mechanic but I try to do what I can.

Thanks.

I dont know which can you got, but the one I used was an open can and pour kind of thing.

This is a spray can with a long red "hose" with a black slip in the middle....This was all they had.

I don't know how to add a pic or I'd show you

Sea foam has been expanding their product line lately.

They now market all sorts of stuff.

The gas additive is an old fashioned liquid in a screw top tin.

Read the label carefully to make sure you have the right product.

This is really not needed on the R50/53 it is more for the 07 and newer models

Excuse my ignorance-Why is it not needed? Is there a different procedure I would/should/could use?

Thanks for the link, i've seen that thread previous but it's not my engine so wasn't sure if it the procedure was the same.

Thanks!

Its not our engine because we don't have the problems of carbon build up like they do. So there is no real benefit to using it on the R50/53. Just my opinion.

True we dont have the carbon build up of the R56 but if you have ever opened up an R53 engine you would agree a can of seafoam certainly wouldnt hurt it any.

Ok, thats good to know. Thank you.

Perhaps i'll have to change my search in a different direction then...might just have to take my car to the mechanic for a check over/cleaning. Its running a bit rough, it seems loud, and I keep getting misfire codes. I had a bad coil so I changed that and it's 90% better as far as idling and low rpms.
It randomly wouldn't start yesterday so I let it sit for a half hour tried it again and it fired right up(never happened to me before).

I was hoping a "cleaning" would help.

I dump some in my intake and gas tank ever now and then. Makes it idle better.

Yeah, that's the original stuff.

We use it as a lazy way the clean carbs on old motorcycles.

I have no idea what it does for FI systems
