Fog Light Retrofit Kit on pre 10/2004 R53

I have an R53 with a build date of 08/2003, and I'm looking to retrofit a fog light kit into the car. It didn't come factory with fog lights.

So, I sent an email to Classic, and they asked for the last 7 digits of my VIN. I gave it to them, and they said that there it no fog light kit available for pre-10/2004 cars.

Anybody have any knowledge of this, or worked around it?

The light housings themselves are listed for "all" r50/52/53's so that should be no difference, what you are probably finding out is that there is no "full kit" to add them (wiring, switch panel, etc.) So you would probably just have to add the housings & bulbs and wire them like you would aux. driving lights.

It's just odd. The PDF shows that it's for all R53s, etc. I have the switch panel already in place, couldn't stand the empty bays for front/rear fogs. So I found a decently priced one in the UK and had it shipped over.

I'm no expert but I think that you will need Part 63130395387 it does say that is for built date from 7/2004 so I have no idea if it will help since you have the switch panel it could work but it will need to be activated by the dealer.

Look here: http://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2005-C...ng/Fog_Lights/

I hope it helps, I want to do the same thing to my 05 with this kit, Goo luck

the link is for an 05 they do not have one for the 03 but my guess is that you should be able to do it.

I should think so. Unfortunately it's not returnable if it does not fit.

yes but since you already have the correct switch if it doesn't work just wire them directly, as far as I know they should fit in size if that is the concern.
I want to add this but I have to buy everything, I hope that someone that knows better can chime in on this. good luck

I think that kit should work for all 1st gen years. The wiring diagram for the fog lights didn't change throughout the 1st gen production and the retrofit instructions are also the same. Here are the retrofit instructions published in 2001: http://www.motoringfile.com/howto/Fog%20Lights.PDF

I've done the retrofit on my 2006. Be forewarned that it is fairly involved.

That, sir, is exactly what I was looking for. A way to compare the old install instructions to the new. Fairly identical in all ways, just cleaned up a bit and some technical jargon thrown in for the techs.

Yeah, it's a bit involved, but not overwhelming I'd say. I'm betting it will take me the better part of 3/4 of a day to do it. I'm not real quick when working, try to pay attention to everything I'm doing so that I don't screw it up.

I'm going to order the kit, and give it a whirl. Thanks for the heads up! I'll report back when it's complete. May be a week or two, based on outside temps and just how much fun it is to work in a snow covered driveway.

Ok, got the kit yesterday. $145 shipped from Classic Mini, Thanks Jason! Now all I have to do is wait for a day where it's not colder than a witch's left chesticle.

I realize this thread is 2 years old, but thought it's worth a shot...

When you did the install, did you have any problems with the pins you have to swap out of the white plug in the engine bay fuse box?

I'm working on this install and the white plugs both fit into the fusebox, but the actual connector pins are slightly different between the existing one and the one on the fog light wiring harness. I can't get the fog light pins to fit into the existing white connector. Instead, I swapped wires from the existing white plug into fog light harness, but even that isn't a perfect fit and I'm worried about bad pin connections...

I got everything wired up and the pin connections on that white connector seem to be okay - I haven't noticed any problems. Everything works as it should!

The pins I wasn't confident about are 1 and 2 on connector X4014. I'll have to try to find them in the wiring diagram tonight.

Had a chance to verify pins 1 and 2 on connector x4014 today. Pin 1 is for the power steering fan relay, and pin 2 is for the engine cooling fan. Both appear to be working normally, so the connection there seems fine.

For any who might attempt this...

Mine is a 5/03 build, and the x4014 connector is the only issue I ran into on the install. Just swap pins 1 and 2 on the existing x4014 connector into the connector on the fog light wiring harness and use that one instead. This is contrary to the installation instructions, but the fog light pins won't fit in the existing connector.
