iPod Integration OEM with New iPhone

Does anyone know of a fix to get the OEM iPod adapter to charge and play a newer iPhone? I know you can buy an adapter that will solve it, but I'm trying to get around that. Has anyone had any luck changing the connector?

I never even got the adapter to work. Basically it is not designed for the pin changes that Apple made and just won't work. I just bought a MediaBridge by Audiovox and it works great.

Not correct, Apple changed the pinouts when the 3G came out. They also switched from Firewire to USB at that time but the charging current is the same as any other USB device.

yeah firewire disappeared way back (idevice timeline) but i can tell u my iphone won't always charge on a car adapter that handles my ipod fine (nano, not mini or older firewire) and even ipod touch.. not all adapters are created equally

Because your Nano is still sporting the firewire pinout. Your 4S does not. It has nothing to do with quality of the adapter. It has to do with the pinouts.

And, as I said, firewire was removed with the iPhone 3G.

we can all roll our eyes here ... you says pins, i say quality - have the pins, whatever to juice all the 30pin compatible connector i-devices or don't.. not having that means cheap-product to me

What? It has nothing to do with quality. It has to do with Apple changing it up. Even older iPod and iPhone adapters don't work on new devices so I guess by your thought Apple is **** quality as well?

Bottom line is that you commented on something you have no clue about. Great job!

Clearly you're smarter than me so please explain how my nano works per this support page snippet (emphasis apple)

"Note: iPod touch (2nd generation and later) and iPod nano (4th generation and later) do not support FireWire and will not charge from any FireWire-based power source (including the iPod Hi-Fi)."

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1384

No where did I complain about apple quality only adapters..

Not sure what you are getting on about. You stated that not all adapters are created equal hence the COMPARISON to Apple adapters. If your Nano works then either you are wrong and it is not a 5th gen (most likely a 4th Gen) or you do not have an OEM kit in your car. Either way what I stated was correct and factual. The pinouts changed (even supported by your Apple post) which is why you can't charge the iPhone 3G + on the OEM kit. FYI, it looks like Apple is changing it again for the iPhone 5. I have tried Scorche adapters in my MINI with the iPhone 4 and they did not work. So take it for what it is worth.

I'm done arguing with you... ta!
