And if not, what would you get?
The rules:
0. We're assuming you don't already have a Mini, or your Mini just blew up.
1. All the money has to be spent on the car. It can all go towards the car, or the car + mods of your choice. Mods can include, but are not limited to, track days or consumables like multiple sets of tires and brakes.
2. You have to own the car for two years.
3. You have to replace one of your existing cars with this car.
4. You have to pay insurance on this car, but you can spend some of your $50k on insurance.
5. You can sell this car after the two years, or keep it. Your choice.
6. Don't hate on other people's choices

Yes, absolutely! I'd buy...
1. Cooper (not an S).
2. Reeeeally nice wheels/tires.
3. Body kit.
4. A ridiculously expensive stereo upgrade. Top of the line, the best I can get without eating up too much space in the boot.
5. Borla exhaust, intake, suspension upgrades, brakes, and lots else.
6. Slush fund for when the warranty runs out.
Does an off-street parking space count as a mod?! Those are pricy in Boston. People actually pay more than $50k to purchase them permanently!
I predict at least five people will say Lotus Elise...

For that much I would get an Infinity G3 coupe with all the options or a convertible Nissan 350Z with all the options.
What is good about the MINI is to keep the price down low to about $29,000 including mods.
Then an MC with lots of mods would be the way to go.
Although an plain MCS with 19" pulley, cat-back exhaust, ECU, intake, light wheels and Quaife LSD would be a pretty good performer at under $30K.

Yes, anything that makes owning the car better. I'd say you could include tools or a lift or a garage remodel if you wanted.
I might say Elise, but a two seater wouldn't work as one of our two cars. I'm leaning towards a CPO M3/M5 like Beastmaster, but I'm not sure what I'd do. I didn't have an answer for myself when I posted the question.
I agree with minihune that part of the appeal of the Mini is the price. At $50k I'd be looking elsewhere. I wanted a G35 when we got our Mini, but went with the cheaper car to keep our debt down.

Oh yes I’d still buy an MCS. 50K would put some nice light race wheels and lots of rubber on it for two years. I’d still keep it setup for G-Stock class, but mod it to the max that I’m allowed. It would pay my insurance and track time. I’m set for the next two years.
PM me and I’ll tell you where to send the check.

Maybe... but only if it is a third car (what's up with that rule?). Otherwise the mods I'd want to do would make the car stupid to drive on the street as it would become a more-or-less dedicated track car:
MCS with Winter pkg and very few other options. ($21k)
switch out the seats with ANYTHING ($2k) [factory seats wouldn't last a week]
short-shifter and replace the **** ($200) [ditto]
(2) sets of 16" SSR Comps w/ performance tires (~$4k) [stock v-spokes kept for beater wheels]
probably some performance mods, but it would depend on whether I decided to club-race the car. ($??) [cage, cat-back, CAI, pully, more?]
The rest of the money would be spent on DE's and track time. (Mucho $$$)
I like the MINI, but not enough to replace either of my current cars. If given $50k to replace one of my cars, a MINI would not be a practical option. ead:

I would buy a bone stock no options MCS, then get the SPI twincharger set up, a rdr rear sway bar, shocks and springs (or coil overs), and some Brakes, then remove the carpets, panels, air bags and anything else I feel I do not need. Sell that stuff and use it to buy 2 race seats, and a nice steering wheel and a roll cage. Fix other things as times goes on and things break.
That should leave me with about 20k left (maybee closer to 15k). I would take that and invest it wisely.

As predicted, I would have siad Lotus Elise, IF one of the stipulations wasn't that I had to replace an existing car... because I only have one. So that aside, I'd Buy
2007 MINI Cooper S
Lightest wheels (three sets)
best tires (street, track, snow)
Big brakes
braided lines
HYDRAULIC LIFT fot the garage. Oh yeah!
Ported/polished head w/larger exhaust valves
Schrick Cam
Ignition upgrades
Intake
TB
Front mounted intercooler
Header
UUC exhaust
LSD
ECU re-map
Pulley
Complete H-Sport setup
Wide fender flares
PAINTED recing stripes
Ralley school
If I could buy TWO cars, I'd buy a MCS and One of Randy's Classic Coopers with the Honda V-tech engine! WHOOT!
