R50/53 Are cruise control and the multi-funtion steering wheel one
I have searched past topics and didn't run across this question. My MINI dealer says that the options codes for the 2003 models don't refer to cruise control and the multi function wheel together. The MINIUSA configurator say they are the same. I want them together, but wondered if they come separately.
Yes. I made the mistake of not ordering the multifunction steering wheel, thinking cruise came standard on it (I was wrong, lol). However, for any of those that made the same mistake, I have my saleswoman looking into what it would take to order one and get it installed. I'll post her findings once she finds out.
The Multifunction Steering wheel is a $350 standalone option or it is also included as part of the $1,250 "Premium Package" offered on both MC and MCS models.
The Multifuction steering wheel is a MUST in these cars. The leather wrapped steering wheel adds a very distinctive touch of chraracter and feel to the car, the cruise control is extremely convenient for those ocassional logn distance highway drives and the remote audio controls (Mounted in the back of each wheel spoke) are simply sensational and needed in this car. Why? well there are 2 reasons to get the steering wheel stereo controls:
1) Radio is mounted too low in the center stack
2) Radio's buttons are too small, don't provide much tactile feedback and generally are hard to read/decipher without taking your eyes off the road while driving.
So yeah, the MFSW is one of the best options offered in the MINI and it is worth every penny of it.

Yeah, according to MINI, the multifunction steering wheel can be retrofitted in a car that doesn't have it installed from factory. It is about a 2 to 3 hour job depending on skill level of person doing the install. But yes it can be done, although I don't know how much are the parts + labor. This could easily be a $600+ job. It is much cheaper to order it from factory ($350).

Has anybody had trouble getting the middle left MFS button to activate the ejector seat or tack spreader? Mine is just dead.
(Seriously, if anybody learns how this can be hooked up to turn ON/OFF the stereo, I'd do it in a flash.)
Thanks

Ejector seat: Tap it in the "SOS" pattern... dot dot dot dash dash dash dot dot dot. Otherwise saying, 3 quick taps, three longer taps, then three quick taps. Then, honk the right horn button for your seat to go flying, or the left for your passenger. 2002 models are not equipped with rear ejectors, and I have not learned the pattern for the 2003 models.
For the tack spray: Tap it five times in rapid succession, then hold both horns at the same time.
Hope that helps.
