R50/53 Lots of steering feedback with Mini’s…normal?
Lots of steering feedback with Mini’s…normal?
First off…..let me say that I’m not complain at all, I love the way my mini handles….and how much fun it is to drive. That being said, it seems like I get a lot more feedback through the steering wheel on the mini that I ever had with other cars. In other words…… when ever I’ve driving around and I hit little bump, holes, or ridges in the road….I can instantly feel them through the steering wheel. It’s not like it tries to jerk the wheel out of my hand, but can definitely feel it more than any other car I’ve had. If I’m driving on a bumpy stretch of highway, I can let go of the wheel and it will bounce around a little. I’ve never had that happen on other cars. It just seems like it has much more feedback than other cars I’ve owned.
I’m assuming that this is normal, and it’s caused from the mini’s quick steering ratio compared to other cars. Like I said, it’s not that I don’t like how it handles, I love it, ..... I’m just wondering if this is what it’s supposed to be like. Also, all of my front end bushings and components are new…so nothing is loose/worn out (that I know of).
Any info would be great!

You gets a LOT of feedback in general, because of the way it's sprung. Can't say for certain that's what you're describing, but you will feel every bump. Do you have run-flats? I replaced mine and it helps quite a bit.
Back in the era of the true English roadsters, it was called road feel and was highly desireable. With the trend of the past several years to isolate the automobile occupants from the harsh reality of 'out there' it has been lost and now looked upon as an intrusion.
Ditching the RF's for a good all season will eliminate the harshness but still allow the total motoring experience to sneak it's way thru.
