Seeking Feedback on Nokian Haakapeliitta Snow Tires
I've had earlier version Hak R on two Miatas and got great wear and performance. Looking for feedback from MINI owners using Nokians as I'm looking at either the new Hak 8 or the successor to the R..the R2. My o.e size is 205-45-17 and realize only the Hak 8 is available in that size; would need to go to 205-50-17 or 215-45-17 in the R2.
Thanks in advance for sharing your experience!

I see TireRack is currently offering $50 rebate card on snow tire orders thru the end of September...so order time is getting close for snow tires for any rebate and best snow tire selection...

I had the R2's last winter. Don't get them for a MINI. I bought the 195/55 R16 RFT to replace my Blizzak LM60 RFT that made it through 4 winters. Absolutely horrible stopping on winter surfaces. They handled pretty well for getting out of the way of obstacles.
On the other hand, I also bought them for my Evo X in a 225 45 R18. ABS kicked on once all winter. Was able to cut a path for an ambulance on one occasion. They were not the run flats. Maybe its the car, maybe they are made for AWD and not FWD....not sure. I will be trying out their Z Line performance tires next summer for the Evo in a 245 40 R18 (stock size). Apparently a very good tire for wet weather.

Your personal experience with the R2's has likely saved me a "mistake". Wonder if the new Hak 8 studded s/b considered?
Otherwise...my options then include Tire Rack options of Pirelli Winter Sotto Zero 3, Michelin Primacy Alpin or Blizzak LM 60s RF for "performance" winters....or studless options of Yok Ice Guard IG52c, Michelin xIce xi3 or new Continental WinterContact SIs. Any thoughts/experience with any of these?
Rick

Thanks Mickymow for sharing your first person Hak 8 experience! I see those are available in the o.e. 205-45-17 size vs the slightly larger 215-45-17 size of the R2.
