Thinking about trading my R56 Justa for a R53 cooper S.Thoughts?
I have a 2010 Cooper with 50,000 miles on it.I'm thinking about trading it on a 2004 cooper S with 70,000 miles on it.Tell me what you think.
If you do, make sure you have it checked out thoroughly by either a dealer or other real MINI mechanic. Also, ask the obvious questions about how the previous owner drove it. I bought my 02 R53 after one test drive. Didn't have it inspected. Turns out my MINI was only used for AutoX, so she had lots of very hard driving before she came to me.
Going from a Justa to a S, you've got to expect some bigger problems. You've got to maintain an S, or you will spend lots and lots of cash! Look at the supercharger and water pump. I read somewhere they often need replaced after 60,000 miles.
Also, how modded is it? More mods, more problems! Mine was fully modded when I got here, and man is she fast!
Don't get me wrong, I'm not recommending against going from a Justa to an S, I'm just trying to help you stay away from the problems I had because of my impatience!
If you do get an R53, you will become addicted to the Supercharger Whine!!

Get it inspected by a Mini independent, and if none around, have the dealer do it. They are great cars but there are some parts that typically fails around that age / mileage.
Another thing to consider is the electronics. I don't know what equipment you on your R56, but back then there was no bluetooth and no Sirius offered from the factory. You can get aftermarket stuff, but make sure the work is done right.

Thanks,It's at my local mini dealer. The car is bone stock and looks to be in very good condition.I will get it looked at and intend to test drive it this weekend.
Anything I should keep an eye out for on the R53?I do all my own maintenance on my R56 so that's not a big deal to me.

(seriously though, if I hadn't modded the sh** out of it, I'd be willing to trade it for an 05/06 R53.)
