Well the gear shift cable recall happened to me before I could schedule it to get fixed. It happened last Friday when i was getting off I-95 here in So. FL. The gear shift felt loose and would not engage. The car was stuck in 5th gear!!! I got it to a service station and called the MINI Roadside assistance. After a hour had passed, a flat bed wreaker showed up. Assuming that the dealership would have this part in stock, and the car would get fixed that day or Saturday at the latest. I did not worry.

Well as things turned out when i got to the dealership, they do not stock that part and are ordered by vin#. I was told the part would arrive by Wednesday, today and would get fixed by the end of business. My wife agreed to drive the car up on thursday for me so that we may goto the Euro Fest in South Carolina, but the part won't arrive until Thursday around Noon and probally won't get done until 3 in the afternoon.

This is going to be too late for my wife to it drive up. So we won't be attending. I work in Atlanta, but live in West Palm.

So, if your car needs this work done, call and schedule the service so that they can order the part!!! I can't believe that they would not stock a recall part!!! You can call MINI USA or your dealership to see if your car needs the work done. Also, by now, you should of recieved a letter if your car applies. :???:

That sucks! Sorry to hear about your problem, what a bummer, not so much for the cable linkage itself but also for precenting you from attending the SC Euro car Festival (Couldn't happen at a worst time).

I also live in S.Florida. Who is your servicing dealer?

Braman in West Palm. Friday, I told them about my plans and needing the car fixed asap. I was comfortable with it getting fixed wednesday, but not happening. I think that they could of done something differnet to get it fixed on time especially since I was going to be attending a BMW event. I suggested that they take the part off of another MINI, but they would not do it. :???: :???:

On top of it all, I will also loose my registration money for the event. Unless someone here has any clot with the Euro Fest People.

Try contacting either Lauderdale MINI or South Motors MINI in Miami

(MINI service advisors: Max Cabrera - Lauderdale MINI
Christian Viteri - South Motors MINI)

These 2 dealers have very good service depts and usually carry a good stock of parts, including recall items such as the gear shift linkage cable.

Perhaps it is too late now, but may be, just maybe, Braman could place a call to either Lauderdale MINI or South Motors to see if they have your part. Could speed things up a little of bit.

I personally don't like Braman dealerships and have generally read negative comments about them in terms of sales and service.

Good luck.

Thanks for the idea. Since the part is suppose to come in tommorow, I don't think that they will try anything to get it too me sooner. But I can use it to backup my case that they could of done more to get the car back on the road sooner. I could see them claiming libility reasons for not doing anything like that.

Thanks again.

Maybe I should consider going to your event in Tampa this weekend. On my JD Powers Survey, I may have to blast the service dept.

It is going to be a goodie. Actually sponsored by Tampa Bay Austin Healey Club and open to all Brit makes including bikes. I'd love to find an old Triumph motorcycle....
