R50/53 30 bucks to fill a MINI!
Just came back from a trip to LA. Put in just under a thousand miles, but the real shock was filling up at $2.59 per gallon. Who'd of thunk you'd need $30 to fill a MINI
.
Can't wait for spring to get this stupid oxygenated overpriced winter California gas out of here!

But seriously, I don't think it's just the winter additives that are causing the high prices; there are other factors involved. Somebody mentioned that two of three refineries in CA were out of commission for a while - I'm sure that's got something to do with it.
Price for premium here just increased to $1.72. I was out of town for a day and a half and it went up 7 cents. It's lower than what you are paying, but 7 cents in a day - give me a break.

In Hawaii, Premium is about $1.98 where I fill up.
Think of the $30 as liquid Motoring pleasure.
My kids say that driving in a Modded MCS is like going on a Disneyland ride without the track to guide the way.
You'd pay $30 for a ticket to Disneyland so why not for some driving delight.

I thought everything in Hawaii is supposed to be more expansive than mainland. $1.98 is an excellent price by any standard. I'm moving to Hawaii!
Unfortunately, the price of gasoline will continue to escalate as predicted. I'm not complaining since my MINI is averaging around 29 mpg, which is a lot better than my other car at 12 mpg.

One of these days somebody, somewhere is going to work out why gasoline prices go up and down faster than a *****'s panties.
Minihune says $1.98 in Hawaii when at the same time we are paying $2.59 in So Cal. So it can't be the shipping costs can it?
Don't tell me 2 out of 3 refineries being down(in So Cal) has anything to do with it because what they are producing/not producing now will only have an effect on later prices, not todays.
Texas Oil W. Bush and his cronies out!

I have some not so good news for everyone, the price of gasoline is most likely
on it's way up...
OPEC's decision to cut production April 1 (which has been confirmed), will hurt
supply even further. Oil is running roughly $37 / barrel, was closer to $30 around
xmas. MR Dubyah, tho, I bet loves the high prices, being an oil man from Texas...
but thats another discussion (for the politics forum).
However, OPEC is only part of the problem. The other issue lies within the
typical panic-mode Wall Street runs in these days. The potential strike in Venezula,
or at least unrest, is creating panic speculation creating market forces that
are pushing up the spot purchase prices up...
Lastly, this is typically the time when refiners shut-down parts of their plants
for maintenance for the increased summer demand. If you look at oil-price
trends, they typically take a slight bump in March as this happens. Of course
the Iraq business last March completely blew that issue away!
The New York Times had an article about $3/gallon in Hawaii and California
prices this summer for premium. Not quite sure it will hit that, but I wouldn't
be surprised to see it hovering around $2.50 in July timeframe  Funny how this
Cartel has so much power... And no one seems to do anything about it...

In California prices typically spike this time of year and then settle back down by memorial day. The refineries shut down to re-tool for the non-winter gas. The generally higher prices in CA are partly due to the fact that we have to use corn-derived ethanol in our fuel. Even though there are cheaper ways to produce cleaner burning gas, the politics of keeping corn farmers happy precludes this from happening. Can't blame this one totally on the texas oil guys.
Had to fill up the rental in LA a couple of weeks back and stopped at a TEXACO right at the airport. $2.657gallon they got me for. Still, hell of a deal when you compare it to European prices. Amazingly, the ARCO accross the street was 30 cents cheaper, but I saw it as I left....
^ Yeah, well, tell me where you buy premium in Boston for "1.65 - $1.80"...even the no-name cheapo places in Somerville were running around $1.90 at the end of last week. I haven't seen $1.65 up here this calendar year and not $1.80 for the past month.
>>But George Bush still sucks.
Yeah, I suppose if we let Bin Laden and all of his Saudi friends have their way he would take over the USA and we'd get lots of cheap saudi oil
>>I can hear the flamers now...
>>
>>I've used regular gas ever since I got the car in October.

No flames here, but How does it run? Have you compared with premium? How is your mileage? Will it effect waranty coverage? Lots of questions.
