R50/53 Awesome tail lights
Awesome tail lights
Soon to be my new tail lights. I currently have chrome and I am changing them to black. I don't have them yet but here is a before picture. I got new wheels that are black so I am getting rid of the chrome.

Here are the lights I ordered.

Will post a after picture when I get them and they are installed.

I have these tail lights too!
I have the same ones as you, but in black...
they were only $22 for the pair! They definitely look good. I just have to figure out a solution for the backup lights I lost in the switch.
BTW, what year is the THINK BIG?
I need to buy a backup lamp for that year of car (mine is a 2005).... That would be a great way to replace my backup lights. I bought some surface-mount LED thing but the factory one for a diff model would look better.
I keep trying to upload pics of mine to this post but the site wont let me... ahha! I figured out why... Too large... Here they are resized.

My car is a 2005. I bought the chrome lights in 2006 and had them installed. If you notice the white light under the license plate that is my reverse light. Thats where the reverse lights are on the 2002-2004. 2005 I believe was the first year that the reverse light was in the tail light. I believe I ordered the reverse light from the dealer and wired it to work...well actually my husband did it..LOL.
Yes my license plate is Think Big. Some people think its tinkerbell but nothing to do with her!!
Here is another shot of the tail lights.

I just bought a door handle set that I am going to paint orange so the door handles will match the car. I also am having the grill painted and the headlight trip painted to match the car.
I got a black out belt line kit thats supposed to match the texture of the trim around the top of the car so I am excited to get that also.

Believe it or not, I bought them on eBay... they were $22 with shipping included. Bulbs alone are almost that much at the auto parts store. I think they will even entertain offers. Here is the link, although a search for "mini cooper tail lights" garners a whole list of options... but none this cheap or straight-forward. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apc-03-06-Mi...fdb1e7&vxp=mtr
That was my exact same idea. I am going to get hold of our nearest guy (Des Moines, Jeremiah is his name) and order a tail light like that... that will be the best solution for me... love yours and the way it looks.
Based on what you had planned, i'd just buy the ones like I have and then save the chrome ones for if you decide to go back from 'goth-black' to 'shiny-chrome' again... hahahahahaha... just a thought.

I already bought the ones I show the picture of. They are the same brand that I have now and I knew they would work!
Good luck in your reverse light coversion.

Thanks! You also!
I finally received my new tail lights. After struggling to get them in they look AWESOME!
We struggled because when I got the car painted the body shop decided that its better to glue to tail lights in. They made a lot of mistakes putting my car back together and this was one of them! We finally got them out and I am really happy with these lights.
The first 3 pictures are the before...

And the after shots....

I'm not sure I like the way they jut out, but overall I really like your car... a great example of an R50! Maybe I'll remove my stripes after all..
