Hey all, I've got an R53 and my the CD player on my head unit crapped out. I've been reading up on the forums about replacing the stock unit with an aftermarket one, and discovered all sorts of interesting bits on the HK system.

I decided to go the Enabler route since swapping out the entire system seemed like a huge undertaking. I ordered the Enabler with the mode switch from Mike and just received it. After checking it out, I had a couple questions about the "A" connector...

1. The "+" lead from the Enabler block is going to A5, which is pointing to the antenna motor. Should this be going to +12v battery or switched instead?
2. Is A6 a true illumination lead? The reason I ask is because harness I received from Crutchfield didn't include that lead.

Everything else looks straight forward.

 

Ok, I tried a couple things tonight... but didn't get anywhere.

• I found a dated document off gbmini.net about the red wire needing to point to the +12v amp switch lead. I attached that wire to the head unit's amp remote wire and gave it go... same results: deck works fine, speakers still telling me to sod off.
• Also tried disabling the illumination wire (A6). The deck could care less whether it's connected or not.

Should I try connecting the enabler's red wire to a +12v constant or switched supply line, as noted in the document referenced above? I don't know much about stereo installation, but I thought the amp remote wire only signals the amp the deck has been turned on and not supply constant power.

Contact Ian Cull (inventor of HK Enabler) directly. He's a member here (GBMINI). He doesn't follow NAM as regularly now that he now longer owns a MINI, but he is always very helpful and would have responded if he saw this thread.
