Getting new drilled/slotted rotors from Turner..

Anyone know if these are any good? I have an 02 R53..

http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-12...2-06-pair.aspx

Or what kinds of rotors would anyone suggest?

Thanks!

I'm sure they are fine, but I think it's all for looks.

I'd consider going to R56 S stock rotors and calipers. It's not going to be cheap because you will need to buy the calipers, but it will make a difference. This is the same setup MINI used on the first generation JCW brake kit. Be advised that 15" wheels won't fit, so if you have a winter set, they need to be 16" minimum.

I'm sure they will work.

I used ate premium One rotors and hawk hps pads on a mk2 vs gti i built and absolutely loved them. Stopping power was increased and dust was almost non existant.

I plan to buy this setup for the mini when the time comes.

Awesome, thanks! Any good sites on the web in particular that you'd purchase from?

I was going to say... If you are a spirited driver you might want to avoid them as well. Drilled and slotted on the MINI has had people complain of cracked rotors. I would advise you find something more along the lines of simply slotted or dimpled. Check with Way, he has some nice setups on his pages.

Be warned, if you buy slotted rotors you'll have more brake dust. That's not a bad thing if you don't mind cleaning your wheels more often. Drilled rotors are susceptible cracking, I've seen it an heard it many times.
If you want stock and can afford it then go the R56 route. (Blackbomber)
For stock sized aftermarket rotors I hear Zimmermann's are a very good choice.
My setup is PowerSlot cryo rotors w/Cool Carbon ceramic brake pads. Very good/quiet.

Good to know! Thanks so much - I don't plan on tracking it.. I'm a little spirited, but I hesitate to push it since gas in Chicago isn't exactly the cheapest in the nation. I was looking at the zimmermans:

but I should stay away from drilled?

by way, you mean waymotorworks?

Thanks so much again!

I get most of my parts from Way as well.

There's a lot of good advice above. FWIW, I've come to the realization that, if you want, you can throw lots of money at something and you may get results. For me, the cheapest stock rotors get the job done. Just break them in properly and use them up. They're a "disposable". If you're trying to get life out of your rotors, you're not driving fast enough! The trick to brakes is use them as efficiently as possible over the shortest distance to slow the car down enough to make the turn.

I agree with trackrat above. I'm a pretty spirited driver. My stock setup has never once left me wanting more brake with Goodyear NCT 5 195/55/16s on stock Daytonas. I just went with Mintex Redbox pads over OEM due to their low dusting. I think they are about equal to the stock pads in performance for my needs. If they're inferior, it's not by much. On another Euro car I've used them on (2002 Jetta), they've actually been a noticable improvement over OEM.

I got Zimmerman drilled and EBC redstuff pads at Ways suggestion. I don't track my car but like to get a little spirited. I have had no problems
with this setup and personally, the dust is minimal IMO and the drilled rotors I think cool off the pads quicker.

Drilled only is fine. What I think that the problem was were rotors that were slotted and drilled. I believe that someone mentioned that the lack of surface area weakened them.

I've had two sets of drilled rotors that developed what were termed " surface cracks " by the Mfg. This only came about after track days but I think the canyon miles also contributed to it . They claimed the rotors were safe and that the cracks were cosmetic and replaced the first set but when they second set did the same thing I went another route.

If the drilling is done correctly and the rotors are designe for it, then drilling is fine, though for track use, slotted is preferred. I use Centric Powerslot rotors and Hawk HPS pads. And ATE Super Blue or Gold.

Check out the Stoptech website for some great technical papers.
