I put together some instructions on how to modify a fabric windshield sunshade to fit our sunroofs here.

They are easy to pop in and out, and fold small enough to store in the pockets behind the seats.

enjoy

I'm doing this tomorrow. I've been looking for some way to keep the sun out and this is the solution. Thanks! BTW, I dig the fabric that you used.

The second one I did took about 2 hours. It would probably go faster for someone who knows how to work a sewing machine

Very innovative, Mike!

Have you thought of replacing the factory perforated shades with a non-perforated ones?

Not really because that would involve alot of disassembly I don't really want to get into. I do like the perf shade, there haven't been too many times where it doesn't do the job.

Cool project. The reason we didn't get a sunroof was because the stock shade lets in too much sun (a real problem in Az). Maybe with this mod the next car we get can have the sun roof. Thanks

I'd still be most interested in something that completely replaces the factory sunshade with an opaque version. I just don't see the need to ever let *SOME* sun in. All or nothing for me.

I'm 99% done with the project. I need a sewing machine so I'm going to my sisters tomorrow to finish. I even went so far as to add 2 layers of flannel to the nylon-like material. It should be close to solid. I am planning on having no light intrusion during hot sunny days. I'll post pictures tomorrow when I get done.

By the way, the nylon-like material does wrinkle very easily. If you touch an iron to it it'll melt. I'm hoping that the layers of favric will help straighten it out.

And by the way, any guys that are looking for women, try the fabric store. There must have been 20+ women and me in there. And, the drive to the fabric store involved a road with (3) 90* left turns and (2) 90* right turns through a semi-industrial area with no stop signs and short straights linking the turns. The DSC light was flashing the whole time until I saw the gaggle of geese that were checking-out the women in the parkinglot.

elbee - the fabric straightens out after you run the metal bar through it. be sure to push both ends of the bar away from each other to take most of the slack out before you cut it to length.

good luck!
