R50/53 Sunroof noise
Pumpkin,
This was discussed at one point. Not sure if anyone had a fix for it though.
If you would like to read up more on it, do a search in the "Forums" area for sunroof noise.
Congrats on the car...... There are several here that are mighty envious.... Myself included. We would love to see pics if you have any. You can post them in our Gallery.
Also would like to say..... Welcome to the site.
If you have any questions or comments feel free to post them in the "Site Feedback" forum.

I say just turn up the stereo louder
Just think- you're one of the very few driving around in a MINI with the largest sunroof in the world. It's an experience in and of itself. Enjoy the soothing white noise of SPEED! Take in the sunshine! ZOOOOOOM!

Pulling the sun shade ("the bug screen"
closed with the moon roof open helps dampen the noise. And if you crack open your windows a couple inches, the noise is not as bad.
Since I find myself opening the roof any time I get in the car, I'm considering throwing some sun block in the glove compartment for those long drives.

Hi Pumpkin.
The Cooper I test drove had the same problem, is it wind noise or a drumming sound that annoys you ?.
I think the very nature of having a hole in the roof is going to generate noise, but perhaps the wind deflectors are designed a little short (or long even).
From experience on another forum, BMW spend a bit of time browsing web sites for feedback. I would also suggest you let your dealer know, so he can pass it back along the line.
Cheers, hope your enjoying your MINI. My S arrives in August (with the noisy sunroof
)

I found that when I have the sunroof open in my 325, the vibration on the highway is reduced if I have the air vents open. You might try this.
My BRG Cooper is at the distribution center in NJ - scheduled to be put on a truck on Monday. I hope to have it by the end of next week!

If you only have the sunroof open, you're going to get a noise like as if only one window is open. But if that's not the case, my guess is that the big cross-bar in the roof is messing with the airflow. The MCS that I test-drove had a sunroof, and with that crossbar, i was far from impressed...
of course, i'm sick of sunroofs anyways...

Seems to me they could easily build a wind deflector/sun visor that bolts into the front of the sunroof, like they make for other cars. I have had several on Volvos and BMW's. Thought they gave the car a nice line, and it was quiet when the sunroof was open. The visor kept the sun out of your eyes. Not sure how it would look with the lines of the MINI though.

I'm with you Rocketboy_X, I got fed up with sunroofs 4 cars ago, not only because of the wind problem, but because the amount of dirt that pours into the car, not when driving but when parked, it seems the wind in parking lots picks up the dirt and deposits it into the car and it's impossible to keep clean !

The sunroof on my Cooper does seem loud, louder than my girlfriends Pathfinder, then again its also a lot bigger. I find myself enjoying the sunroof while I am driving in town but once I get on the freeway on I seal things up with the sunscreen open of course..gotta have that great "fishbowl" view

I just love when I leave my sunroof open and I have to spend the drive home (at 1:30 am of course) swatting bugs that are flying around... But i'm sick of the 'Hey, it's a nice day, I'll open up the sunroof. Wait, now the sun's blinding me. Time to put on the spare baseball cap, and wow, it's almost like I have a full roof, just windier.' problem...
