R50/53 Alternator belt squeaking :(
Alternator belt squeaking :(
Alternator belt squeaks bad, and its even worse when it rains! (The belt all the way to the right by the passenger headlight is this belt correct?) I believe its called the serpentine belt?
Anyways... Its highly annoying, the tensions seems fine. Do i need a new belt? Is it hard to change it yourself?
Thanks!

Your belt tensioner is probably giving out. You can have the belt replaced and see if that helps first. I've replaced 2 tensioners due to this noise, though.
If you look at the back of the belt and see smooth, shiny irregular wear, could be your tensioner is shot. You should use the "belt tensioner tool" to change the belt as it is a LOT easier. See if any MINI types in your area have one you can borrow.

There is only 1 belt that runs everything and there are several write ups of how to replace it. I would suggest an automotive stethoscope, touch againgst the alternator to see if the bearings are starting to whine (carefully, with car running). If you can't hear an angry alternator bearing, most like the idler or tensioner pulley. Which you should change while you have it apart anyway.
I also experience this noise. I replaced the tensioner and belt and all was resolved. you need an belt removal tool (its a long thin steel arm with a bolt hole to compress the tensioner while slipping on the belt that you can buy at princess auto or any auto shop) because of the very tight clearances at that location. It kind of tough to work in there but its doable. Good luck and post your results.
Could be the tensioner, but it is most likely just a stretched and worn belt. Just replace the belt and you should be fine.
Changing the belt is not real hard, but it is time consuming if you don't have the proper tools (tensioner release tool). Even with the tools it takes me about 45 min.
