R50/53 What is that in the glove box?
The plate can be drilled or popped out so you can wire the AUX input (or whatever.) from behind the Head Unit into the glove box.
The **** thing looks like it's connected below the glove box to a hose, and turning closes or opens the airflow into the glove box. Maybe if you turn the AC really cold and open up the flow, you can chill a six pack in there.

Thats what the **** is, a glove box heater/cooler. What ever you have running (heat or a/c) will heat or cool the glove box. I fiddled with it all the time and couldnt figure out what it did. Then one day I had the a/c on and was digging in the glove box and felt cold air. Then it hit me! Havent used it yet but I know I have it now
I'd rather you just didn't answer!!

Mini's Owner's Lounge site has them all, downloadable as PDF or readable online. Perks of using Google.

Nope..that's the right answer...the first place to look should be the manual.....and if your car didn't come with one then download one!
I think it's a pretty good answer.
I saw your post, but didn't answer.
You're welcome.
Cristo... Your answer also cheapens what the website (at least, what I thought it was) is all about.
Isn't NAM about giving info, experience and advice to new Mini owners... Getting new owners to join and be a part of the community??
Telling a newb to go look in a manual is about as helpful as a chocolate fire guard!
I don't think these sorts of answers are helpful to "New to Mini owners" such as myself.
Thanks guys... You are a huge help to your fellow Mini-uns.
Thank goodness for members like dannyhavok...

For someone who wants to be welcomed to join and be part of the community, you're being quite adversarial...
I said "it's in the manual", to point out that this isn't anything mysterious, it's fully documented in the manual - it's even a feature that they advertise in the car's specifications.
There are lots of quirky things about the Mini, so much so that Mini put out not only an owner's manual but also an "unauthorized" owner's manual and even a quick-reference card called "The Top 10 Idiosyncracies of Your New MINI". They obviously want you to read them.

a reasonable response. It will provide the answer to the question
asked as well as a wealth of other info that MINI owners should know.
FWIW I have been sharing info, experience, and advice on this forum for about 9 years now.
See, now that was a great answer.
Thanks much for the links.

Don't forget my earlier link to the Owner's Lounge on miniusa.com. That one is probably the most useful.
