reverse lights out?

quick question.

noticed the other day that the reverse lights (both) do not light up at all.

I replaced the bulbs and it did not help.

I pulled the 5 amp fuse and it was intact.

anyone got any ideas?

it is a 2006 Cooper S.

Thanks so much!

I would replace the fuse anyway. I've run into fuses that looked intact yet were junk/blown. This includes both the newer chip style fuses and the older round tube style.

There is a switch on the transmission that is known to go bad. As a matter of fact, it was the first thing I replaced when my reverse light didn't work. Not expensive and easy to reach. There is a thread with photos if you search for it.

Yeah, it is the switch on the transmission. The thread is here:

It isn't difficult. Good luck!

thanks for the links and the photos! It means a great deal to me that complete strangers would take the time to help with nothing in return but a thank you.

it took me all of 10 minutes to discover that the plug shown in the figure was not attached to the sensor!

I plugged it back in, placed my wheel back on the car and voila!

reverse lights fully functional.

i love this forum!!!!!!!!!
