Hey everyone,

Regarding cargo capacity with specific regards to musicians: Who here normally transports a cello in their MINI? Im guessing not many have to do this, if anyone.

I thought I might ask to see how you manage this as I have never brought my case in to the dealer to see how it might best fit. Im pretty sure it can be easily managed with both back seats down but Im hoping there is a better way to do it with only one seat down maybe?

my case is a Bam, one of the earlier ones, not the nice new smooth ones. I love the case and would recommend it to any cellists! but i dont know about how it will load into the back of the MINI.

I carry guitars and related equipment occassionally.
Not great space, but I make it work. With the back
passinger-side seat down, and the front passinger
seat moved forward. there's a big space. That might
be what works for you. Don't hesitate with your idea
to take your cello case to the dealer.

God speed.

Yes, take your case to the showroom and try it in the MINI. My friend carries her cello in a New Beetle so I think the MINI will work. Of course she is the only one in the car. I'm not sure if hers is a BAM case.

My wife and I are both violinists and two cases fit in the MINI's trunk very neatly!

Cool!

I'm a violinist (hence my username) and my wife is a cellist. Um, haven't tried getting the cello into the MINI yet. Whenever we plan on taking the instruments, we just take our Grand Cherokee.

Just responding because it's great to learn of other musicians on here.

I can get a Baritone Sax(large) a Tenor and Alto sax in my MINI. Its abit tight, but it does work.

I do have a Dodge mini van that I use for most of my music transport. It's for sure much larger, and I'm not so concerned with scratching the the inside of the van as I am the MINI.

I am a cello player and the only way I have found to transport the case is to put the back seats down, open the boot and thread the neck of the case between the two front seats. It works and two people can ride in the front seats with a bit of discomfort, but it is not too bad.

I notice you are an Apple aficionado. Moi aussi.

Good luck with the cello.

I took my largest two guitar cases, an amp, some guitar stands, and a large gear bag to the MINI dealership before I even sat down to talk w/ a motoring advisor. I must say that after driving the 1 1/2 hours to try things out, I was extremely worried that I wouldn't be able to fit all my stuff in that afternoon, which would have ended any thought of owning a MINI right then and there. Mission accomplished, but now the challenge is to keep the gear from thrashing about when I'm transporting it- hard to have restraint when a good g-producing opportunity arises!!

High school cello player here. I fold both of the seats down and put the cello in diagonally, the neck towards the from passenger door and the endpin towards the back, drivers side of the boot. It's snug, but holds it in quite well!

Cheers!

Last week I saw one of the members of the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra loading a cello into an IB/W MINI with a Towson license plate...It can be done!

NO! That is amazing. I should go solicit this cellist for lessons and for mini info!

I wish I'd had my MINI when I moved, so I could tell you for sure if my drum kit would fit. (I'm pretty sure it would, with some creative loading techniques.)

I used to drive a Nash Metropolitan

and I took it to many gigs.

I know my Clubman will be positively spacious compared to the Met.
