TO bearing makes noise only when clutch is out and in neutral. If I let the clutch out slowly it doesn't make any noise. Still shifts perfect and has plenty of power. Previous owner told me the clutch and everything associated with it was replaced. Should this be addresses immediately? I have read that this is a common problem with Minis. Thanks for your help.
The throwout bearing in our R50 went from quiet to really noisy to pieces in four hours. Sounds like yours is not as serious, but I wouldn't go anywhere without a phone.

it could just be flywheel chatter. do you know if the previous owner replaced the clutch/flywheel with a dual mass or a single mass? I know when I had a single mass flywheel in my Jetta it ratted pretty bad when in neutral and clutch out, but it wasn't the throwout bearing at all and was nothing to worry about.
There's a thread out there explaining this issue if i find the link i'll post it. I've had the same noise for a few thousand miles. My fix is to let off the clutch slower than normal noise goes away and i get to ignore the promblem a bit longer. From what i've heard it's not a big problem more embarassing than anything else.
